Cool. I've been wanting a cordless edge trimmer but didn't want to start a new collection of battery ********.

Just watched a video from toolsinaction on the trimmer. Looks very impressive compared to the competition. They say it competes with other brands' higher volt (40V, 56V, etc) tools with the M18 Fuel. Chewed right through what appeared to be a broom head. Not released until Spring 2017.

I saw a lot of guys bashing the base layers but they look nice. If the fit is good I'd wear it for sure.

Milwaukee 18V Fuel Brushless String Trimmer - First Look

Thanks for posting this. My wife's only yard job is trimming and she wants to be done with our gas trimmer and I want to be done fiddling with it.

One of my two Hitachi 18V batteries just died after six years so it will be an interesting choice between Milwaukee and Makita X2 when the other one goes.

Wish it was coming out this year... I'm ready to make the change to a battery trimmer/weedeater.

Cool, every time I wrote them I begged for a bump-feed head, they're just more reliable when they don't have to "think" for you like auto-feeds.

It looks like it rips it; the 40V Ryobi Xpand-It just doesn't have enough RPM w the shaft drive so hopefully Milwaukee got the ratios right.

I don't think the blower is just brushless; it looks to be massive-insane mph, like some of the bigger cordless blowers (eg 56V) or gas backpack units.

I've got the present M18 blower and love it, but it's more "hobby" than lawn care "pro."

The school I went to for machining always claimed to be broke but paid no fewer than 2 guys to wander around every fall w backpack blowers chasing those evil leaves with obnoxious backpack blowers.....I never understood it. You'd want to go sit outside for a peaceful like lunch and WHEEE....WHEEEE...WHAAAAA....and oh by the way son, your class may be cancelled 'cause we have no money and all.

The miter saw is cool. I'm sure the electric trimmers have their place, but I like gas power equipment.

I am excited for the trimmer. To bad it's a spring 2017 release. Will have to nurse my old 2 stroke along for one more year I guess.

I was hoping for a updated m12 ratchet. O well..

I wish this had been available this year. I just had to make a decision on new cordless blower and string trimmer. After lots of research I went with the new EGO 56v stuff. So far it's been an excellent choice but it would have been nice to have the same M18 battery's as my other tools, work in my outdoor tools.

They should run some demo days at HD when the lawn stuff is released. If the new M18 blower matches my Husqvarna 50BT in performance I will gladly buy the blower, wacker, and hedger.

New blower does look cool as sh!t.

Damn, wish I could have waited a bit longer... I love my Red tools, but really needed a new Li-ion trimmer and blower so I went with the new DeWalt stuff. The free extra battery promo was a great deal, and I bought the bare tool blower from Acme with their $20 off promo.

If the Milwaukee stuff is half as good at the DeWalt trimmer it will be great. I trimmed for 30 minutes yesterday using the new DeWalt, and my old commercial Stihl gas trimmer is now going on Craigslist for a quick sale... So much nicer to just grab the electric stuff and go, no fueling or starting issues. After 30 mins of trimming I still had 50% of the battery left.

You could pick them up next summer, give us a comparison versus the Dewalts. When the Milwaukees blow them away (hoping they made awesome stuff) you sell the Dewalts on CL.

I hate my gas hedge trimmer, my wacker is perhaps near end of life, the Husq backpack blower is great but goes through a lot of gas. I am excited for the Reds next summer, they better release them early spring not May/June.

Wonder if the string trimmer will have a detachable head for other things, like edger or even better a pole saw!!!!

So tired of seeing this nonsense. Can't you people stop dumping this jingoistic **** everywhere? You're adding nothing to the conversation and you just look foolish.

THANK YOU for standing up for your thread. It is very informative and I totally agree with your response.

The polisher is a complete joke. The battery is in absolutely the wrong place. Hanging down like that it's going to hit the surface without a doubt from time to time and that's just unacceptable. All they needed to do is make the handle go straight out and it would be fine. STUPID DESIGN.

My Makita 18V LXT has bump head feed and with a 3 AH battery lasted cutting the entire perimeter (edge) of my 10,000 SF lot.

Well I'm glad I haven't stocked up on 4.0 batteries then, if they're going to come out with 6.0 batteries. Will be interesting to see how close they are in size to the 4.0 packs. Same goes for the 3.0 vs 2.0 packs in size, though with 7 2.0 packs I don't think I'll pick up many 3.0 packs.

Just when I thought I was happy with my M12 tools.....
Next spring is going to get expensive! But I was hoping for something like my gas tools with the detachable heads. Mostly looking/hoping for extension poles for long reach on hedge trimmers. Maybe they will come out with a pole saw too.

Excellent! As the owner of a smallish city home the 18V yard tools will help me clear out the old 18V B&D tools that have served me well the past 8 years and allow me to commit to the 18V Milwaukee line...as long as an extended hedge trimmer and pole saw show up soon.

The 3.0 will be the same size as the 2.0 and the 6.0 the same size as the 4.0, they just might be a little heavier. They are just using higher density cells, the number of cells in each pack will be the same.

If I got six years out of a battery I'd RUN and get another Hitachi ! ???

I'm a Milwaukee guy and I'm pleased to see them expand the tool lineup but I had to buy into DeWalt, to get a decent set of tools. Who's steering the ship at Milwaukee?

How about improving the chucks a bit, so they don't spit out bits? I mean, just make the non-fuel drills usable, they don't have to be fancy chucks like DeWalt uses on their high end stuff.

How about making a jigsaw that works properly. I regret not sending mine back. If I had not purchased it through an online supplier, I would have returned it as not fit for the task. The blade collet is a horrible design. It doesn't hold many blade types and, the ones it does hold, are not held straight.

... and how about a framing nailer? I'm sure they will have one in a few years but I'll be half DeWalt by then.

The great tools from Milwaukee include: hex light, FUEL drills, FUEL impacts, circular saw, Sawzall, specialty plumbing tools, and the batteries (and chargers) are excellent.

I wish they were less hot and cold. They should strive for hot and warm. The worst tools should at least be usable. Anyone who has used the base model M12 drill knows how infuriating it is to have the bit spit out every time you pull the trigger. I'd like to throw that tool at a Milwaukee product specialist. lol! :D

I built an entire 20x24 deck using four M18 - 4.0 batteries and no charger.

I think larger batteries are needed for one or two of the tools like the Sawzall but 4.0 is lots for everything else. Even the circular saw can cut crazy amounts of wood on a 4.0 battery.

I just picked up four more M18 batteries on sale. They are cheap now that they are not the leading edge. I'll bet those four batteries I just picked up will end up costing not much more than a single 6.0 and they pack 16.0 Ah of energy.

If you can get them cheap, 4.0 are a great value.

I can pretty much promise I will be buying the m18 utility search light, and the dual head bucket light aimed at lineman and utility work.. I have the tripod light, and just picked up the dual powered flood light.. Those, and the m18 lantern and original work light pretty much cover all areas. The cordless stuff makes life much easier.
