New motor for old bandsaw

Hello all, I am in the final stages of restoring a 14” Delta bandsaw. Unfortunately, the original motor is beyond repair so I am in the market for a new motor. I am looking at a few 1hp 1750rpm models. Does anyone have any brands or specific models they would recommend? I see a Dayton 1 hop model but not sure what is best. Thanks.

I have on old Delta 14" that someone did a decent job restoring. It does not have the original, but a pool pump motor instead which works great. I dont know if you are trying to restore this with all original parts or just whatever it takes to get it cutting. If interested I can send a picture of the plate on the motor to give you an idea of what a lower cost easier to source option. I would love to see pictures once its up and running!

What happened with the original motor? Burnt put windings or the insulated wires have fallen apart?

Marathon, Leeson, Dayton, Baldor all make good motors. I look at amperage and Safety Factor: Amperage gives an indication of how "honest" the horsepower rating is, while Safety Factor (higher the better) indicates how much overload the motor can operate under. I would recommend an industrial TEFC type motor for a saw, and not an open type furnace blower motor.

The original motor for the woodcutting version of that bandsaw was typically a 1/2 hp. I know because I have one.

Just check cl for old usa motors. I would not buy a new one since there are so many out there.

Personally I would shop for a 1hp three phase as you can buy the cheap and then I would use a VFD so I can have variable speed

Yeah 1hp is overkill for that saw.

Leeson farm-duty motors (the red tefc ones) from surplus center are a great option.
