Found and joined this site a bit ago but am just now getting to posting something. I live on 11 acres just south west of greater Cleveland in a semi rural setting. The ranch house has a 2.5 car attached garage and then there is the 20x20 yard maintenance building and the 30x40 pole garage that houses the transportation department.:) I have decided after years of disarray, this summer was the time to reclaim my space and get it organized. I'm currently working on the pole garage* after finishing the small garage and the house garage will be last. I will start here with the small 20x20 garage that houses my property management equipment.

* A work buddy keeps telling me that I don't have a pole barn, that it is a large garage with partial pole construction. So he explains that a pole barn is all metal with a dirt floor, maybe concrete. Mine on the other hand is sided with OSB over the framing and then covered with vinyl siding, has vinyl windows, steel man door with window and a double wide insulated garage door and fiberglas shingles. Then there is the full load bearing second floor that the original owner was going to have as a woodworking shop. I concede and don't call it a pole barn anymore, it's new name is the "Transportation Dept."

Back story: I bought my property in 1996 and the buildings were put up by the previous owner and I might say, done right. Both outbuildings were vinyl sided (light blue) and roofed (sandstone) to match the house, but were completely naked on the inside of both. I just recently decided to reduce my inventory of man stuff (wife calles it junk) and erect storage racks to hold everything off the floor and give me back space. My goal is to be able to work on my cars in the big garage and be comfortable, but I'm not going to try and make it look like an interior room of the house either. I'll post up some pics starting with the yard dept.:)

Welcome! I also have a ranch house with an attached garage and a separate 2-car garage. My dream would be to have a separate 30x40 building. I would be really interested in seeing an overall picture of how all of your buildings sit in relation to the others. Also, pictures of the Transportation Dept are a must!

Will do, but one project at a time. I'll post a few teaser pics of the 30x40 as soon as I relocate the Forestry Dept away from the Transportation Dept. (translation - I need to clean out the gutters and get rid of the 14" maple trees:shocking: )

Here is an aerial shot that we bought back in '04 from a company that knocked on the door one day and wanted to know if we wanted a nice pic of our property. We wound up buying a 16x24 print in a nice walnut frame and was told it was rare for us to get a fall shot since they cover 3 states a year and maximum color is short lived and the time frame varies from year to year. The dump truck and other man stuff is gone from in front of the 30x40 now (wife shouts HOORAY loudly). One day I plan to digitize the pic and photoshop out the junk, err man stuff.

The 30x40 sits under/in a grove of maple trees and the 20x20 has the gravel drive spur off to the left at the house and go back to it. The 30x40 has 100 amp service & 220v. while the small garage only has 110v. service off of a few house breakers. (enough for a few lights and 4 outlets) In the real estate business, we call this a Gentleman's Estate featuring a park-like setting. Translation - lots of mosquitos when it is wet and waaaay to many leaves in the fall.

I think you need a bigger mower.

Nice setup and welcome to the Journal. Our meds are dispensed daily or whenever there is a new posting in the Classifieds
