Has everyone here seen this new oil filter study? There was one that hit the net a few years back but I think this is a recent one where the guy spent a lot of time and money doing a good job of the comparisons. Even better, I like the fact that the Mobil 1 filter I use scored pretty high:

The earlier study was an "examination" of the filters by cutting them open on a lathe and looking at the insides, number of pleats, type of material, check valve design and materials, housing thickness, end plate thickness and design, etc. Fram threathened to sue the guy for his not so kind comments of their filter, and the study was removed from the net but later reappeared.

It would be nice if the new study had bothered to note the housing and end plate thickness and number of pleats, etc. The pics don't tell you much about the filtering ability unless you spend alot of time examining them.

Visit just about any racing board, and state that you are having oil pressure loss issues, and one of the first questions they will ask is Do you have a Fram on it? It can always be argued to what extent racing data translates into everyday driver data. But I can tell you that Frams don't go on anything I own when I can buy Wix at my local parts store.

I use the K&N on my LS1 GTO. The only bad grade was on the price, but since it takes 6.5 qts of synthetic(usually royal purple) I can live with the price of the filter..
