I just picked up this Craftsman tool box at a swap meet for $50 with some miscellaneous tools included in the deal. Came with a complete Channellock 4 piece set, Husky 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 drive ratchets with husky sockets. Box was half full of medium quality tools.

One drawer slide was damaged and mangled beyond repair, all others just needed cleaning and oil for proper sliding. What model box is this so I can find the slide?

I would like to make this my new mobile box but don't like the lift handles on the side. Would it be feasible to replace the handles with a more mobile friendly handle like the one I have now (chest style)? What do you guys think of using it as my mobile box? I am a weekend DIYer and carry a 6 drawer 26" Kobalt box now that has some broken roller bearing slides. I use this box as my junk yard box and go-to box that will assemble/fix anything automotive related that comes my way.

Call Waterloo Industries. They made the box for Craftsman. They may have slides that will work for this toolbox. Good luck. Great red & gray Craftsman 12-drawer by the way! Whereabouts in Texas are you?

Nicely done! In my opinion, a bit big for lugging around outside your truck, but it could be done. I have a similar box that I sometimes ponder using for a road box.

With lots of drawers it be easy organisation for tools and some consumables and if not crammed still manageable by 1 guy .
Would defo want add couple decent large swing handles both ends, maybe salvaged from military container or trashed tool chest . Make good tie down points too, want locking system/bars working good so drawers held secure .
Adding strengthening cross bar supports inside for handle bolt points be good if access and fixing points work out . I'd be inclined spot weld base plates over ends for handle points and give the outer chest case a coat of grey epoxy, line drawers with ribbed underlay and load it up and get her in use .

PM'd you... I probably have the slides & drawer you are missing. That'll make a good "road box" so long as the lock bars are working properly and will keep the drawers shut when loaded up and going around corners, etc. The earlier versions of those boxes had "external" handles that simply screwed on. However if you were moving it loaded you might want to put a backing plate on the inside where you drill the holes for screws.

I'm in San Antonio. Bought this box at the New Braunfels swap meet.
