New Old Drill Press

So I've been looking for a drill press for a while now, and came across this one last week. I was hoping to find an early delta rockwell, and almost did however someone beat me to it.

Being impatient, I jumped on this old Sprunger Bros Drill press. The seller said it was used in a Campbell's Soup experimental plant where his father worked. I saw that another GJ member has the same model so I thought I'd post up my find.

My plans are to make it look and operate as new as possible. It currently has a 1hp dayton motor on it that sounds pretty bad. I may do a restoration thread on it eventually as soon as I figure out the direction I want to take with it.

Bearings might solve the noise issue. Nice find.

I'm going to have to pull the motor apart and see why it's making so much noise. I originally thought it may be the spindle bearings since the motor looked newer. I pulled the belt off and ran the motor and confirmed that it's the motor.

I've read a couple of dc motor conversions for speed control and may consider going that route down the road.
