I've been in Vermont for the past three years after suffering most of my adult life in California. Last fall I started on a build, getting the foundation in before winter, and this spring started on the build / rebuild itself.
The building is a former 28 x 32' Center Chimney Colonial from the late 1700's from what we can tell from the hand hewn timbers. It had been sitting in a barn disassembled for 20 or so years when I bought the frame last year.
I raised the building up with 18" of knee wall above the slab and 8x8 pine sills I sawed from trees we took down on the lot, for 10'-6" to the bottom of the floor joists above. I know - not the 14-16' most of you guys like, but adequate for a 4-post lift and my vintage Corvette.
The second floor will be my woodworking shop. It will have a vaulted ceiling, with exposed 6x6 rafters and pine boards.
I've been keeping a blog of the progress - vtworkshop.blogspot.com Attached is a picture of how she sits today. The small house immediately in front will be torn down after this building is weather tight.
