Hey all,
I'm new here but I've been around the garage for 61 Years. LOL
I've been building my own garage using Insulated Concrete Forms, ICF, I've done all the work myself except setting the steel bar joists in place and pumping the concrete. It's 36' X 30' and the walls are 8" thick solid concrete. I used steel bar joists to support the second floor, rated at 250# per square foot, and the roof is 8" SIP panels on steel bar joists as well. I'm planning to pour the floor soon and then my next project will be getting doors on the place.
My Dad built his own shop when I was a kid and he had a solid panel door he built himself that rode in a track and pivoted in the center. The old home place is long gone so I can't return to the building in order to engineer my doors. As I recall it only required two rollers and was assisted by a pulley system that had a large box of sand as a counter balance.
Do any of you other old geezers have anything similar on your garage? I would like to see the mechanics of this type door so that I can build them for my garage. I have done a number of searches for DIY Garage doors but nothing like that door has ever shown up. I am an experienced woodworker so the construction of the door should be pretty simple for me.
