At work we just intercepted this box from going in the dumpster from a lab clean out. We aren't allowed to take these things home but we decided it was too nice not to use. It's an old, round sided Kennedy and deeper than most that we see. Sorry they're sideways. I couldn't rotate them after I sent from the phone.

Any help on the year would be appreciated. I am guessing late 60's early 70's just from what I know about where it was and what is inside.

I'd borrow it for a bit and forget it in my garage. I hate it when places throw out completely useful stuff like that and refuse to let the employees use it.

Call Kennedy in Van Wert, OH and ask. They'll tell you.

I have what could easily be that box's matching roll cab. I'm under the impression mine is from the 50's from what I've read here. The red krinkle finsh had apparently a short run so if somebody knows exactly what time range red krinkle was used, that should give both of us a good idea of age.

Our place is the same way.The old company it was first come, first served, but the new company it ALL goes straight into the hopper. I got my Kennedy before it went into the dumpster. Now no one can take anything at all. All because some idiot somewhere got hurt putting "scrap" into his personal vehicle on company time.

Long ago, i once worked for one of the big 3 auto companies. There was a rather well known and highly skilled engineering manager who did engine dyno testing performance work on new engines for a future sports car program. Well, after the dyno testing work is done, those new engines must be scrapped immediately. This fellow intercepted the engine and arranged to take it home with him. Later, he put it in his current model sports car as that was what the upgraded engine design was made to fit. Then he TOLD lots of people about what he did and showed it off ! The company found out and this fellow was fired. I don't know if he kept that engine or not, but not a good tradeoff. So just don't do it ! - Paul

I'd say you are in the ball park with the 60's-70's guess. I have the modern (late 80's, early 90s) version of that, 5 drawers, drop down front. Different box.

What is the box it is sitting on with the tambour door?

There was a post a few days ago from a Kennedy employee regarding their continuing tradition and USA manufacturing. You could search it, and PM them.
Nice looking box! My kind of dumpster diving adventure.

I used the same Kennedy Roll cab for 26 years.
Sold it to a co-worker on the day I retired, for the same amount of money I originally paid for it new.
Hindsight being 20-20, I wished I had kept it.

Steve,
Similar experience. When I took an office job 17 years ago, I tried to sell my Versa-Cart, with all of the bells & whistles for a fair market value. Too many idiots called & said "I can get a new one for 1/2 your price at HF". Gladly, I never sold it. I'd be happier to enjoy it now and pass it to the kids after my final check out.

I'd love to find one of those to add to the matching roller I have... and yes, probably 50's/60's.

Company lawyers **** on that topic. All they seem know is "throw it away to be safe" when all they need do is have the employee sign a release of liability. Win/win...

Well, there are two reasons for me not smuggling it out. Where I work we are a government funded facility and we are considered government contractors. This is considered "government property". So getting caught smuggling it is grounds for immediate dismissal since one would lose his security clearance as a result. And we have security cameras EVERYWHERE. Thus the reason to keep it in house and use it. The second reason is that I just don't need it as cool as it is.

We also have a salvage company that takes a lot of things. I have bought stuff from them legally. For some reason this was going to the metal dumpster instead. It likely would have been crushed if we let it go that route long before I would have been able to contact the trash vendor and ask about purchasing.

The box underneath is what it was sitting on in the lab it came out of. It is a Wright Line media cabinet according to the tag on front.

It could be as old as early 50's theoretically sine our facility opened in 1950. It has grown over the years and a lot of the stuff I see is from the 60's and 70's.

I have "obtained" some items but they are usually small things that they look the other way on or items that were not property of the facility thus not subject to the government property rules. Like things that belonged to other people for example that were brought into work.
