...love the screw pitch gauge.
I have a Brown & Sharpe like that. With the blades out it makes my nickname for the them ("Ninja Death Star") even more apt!

FOUND THE KEY!
Congrats!

Is the drop front on the box loose (detachable, locked in with spring-driven pins when the lid is closed) or permanently attached? Is it possible that the drop front is from an older box? Did you see that the drop front on the ugly restored red one (the guy painted over the clasps for Pete's sake!) that looks like yours did not have the older embossed logo on it?

I did see that. The drop front is detachable, and fits perfectly. Has tangs in the bottom that fit perfectly into the receiving holes in the box. Certainly could be from an older box though. Hopefully Roseanna will chime in.

Oh, and back at you with the spellcheck......no embossed logs in my box[emoji1]

Very interesting, Todd! I wish we had the explanation. I'm trying to think of another example of a Mfgr using two different logos on the same tool, equipment, or box.
Perhaps you didn't find them in the cats because they were potentially a specialized machinists box? All drawers are felt lined.

the box looks to be a K-55-W from the 1940s and the two different style logos is as it should be with this box.

I just didn't look close enough, Todd. Honestly, I wasn't looking at the pages with the boxes at all, I was just skimming the front covers of every catalog from the 20's to the 90's to get a handle on the evolution of the logo, and when the major changes to it occurred. Based on bsg's prompting, I just went to the toolbox pages in Cats P ('42), Q ('45), and R ('46). Sure enough, the images of the K-55-W and the K-55-R show the riveted polygon badge with the stylized logo, just like on yours. The drop front doesn't have the embossed logo, but that is the standard logo for the 40's that's on everything else, including the tools, so there's no reason to doubt it wasn't there. Just didn't get put in by the artist. I never would've guessed that other logo was 40's.
