new/old welder....

Scored a welder for free! Previous owner hadn't used it for years. It was just sitting in his garage collecting dust. Unfortunately he was going through a terrible divorce and he had to clear out his garage (vicious wife! )

Already removed the dust.

The regulator knob from the wire speed is broken and should be replaced, and I think I should replace the gas meters and tubing also.

After a cleanup the inside looks pretty decent....

The plan is , replace the broken parts , give it a new paint job and build a cart for it. More pics will follow.....

Looks like a good project! Especially for free. Too many Jimmy Diresta videos lately has been getting me in the mood to restore some old equipment, but I hate to spend too much on them if I end up having to dump a lot of money into them later on.

Looks good. The mig gun OK? because those can be a little pricy. Who made that welder?

MIG gun looks OK, but not tested yet. No idea of the manufacturer. No logo's inside/outside.

it looks like a 1980s migatronic if it is its a good quality welder

Did some research and the Migatronic welders look very similar. It probably is one, or a cheap copy?

The wire speed regulator is replaced and the casing is rattlecanned. Covering the dark green color was a PITA....
Slowly we are making progress.

Finished the welder project today! I'm pretty happy with the result.

Stainless steel exhaust end piece used as a torch holder...

Used a military file box to store the welding mask.

Don't know yet. Still have to get gas and wire, and start to learn how to weld..

go buy a small roll of flux core and start welding, no bottle needed
