With a new baby on the way it was time to move most of my hunting and fishing gear out of the house. I will also have the added benefit of getting rid of a storage unit (those fees jump more often than cable TV).

I shopped around and settled on a 10x20 lofted barn that would fit in a space without losing too much yard footprint.

Went with the Navajo White on the left.

I started with throwing together some basic shelving.

I still need to add the top and bottom shelf today. I had kept them off because I needed to move a safe from what will be the nursery into my bedroom.

I thought moving the safe would be a nightmare but we threw down moving blankets with the plywood on top and rolled it with 1” pvc pipe. The worst part was leapfrogging the 8’ sheeting through the house.

I would like to figure out some overhead storage in the areas that aren't lofted. I have LOTS of waterfowl decoys that need to fit in the barn and would like to get some wakeboards and layout blinds that aren't used often off the floor.

A good start, do you have electric running to the building?

I got the largest 'shed' I could, under zoning reg's. 10' X 20' Hardi-board siding on-top of housewrapped 3/4" plywood, galvanized steel frame, roll-up OH door and standing seam metal roof set onto a 4" concrete slab, & wired for 100 amps, underground service run, and lots of 120V & 240V outlets. Because of where it is, (FL by the S.E. coast) it's built to withstand 180 MPH gusts.

No electric yet but I do have 220 on the carport right beside the barn. Hoping to get an electrician to get me wired up soon.

I had to empty a storage unit out by the end of April so my current project is organizing everything and thinning out the junk that piled up in there...In between surviving with a 3 week old baby. Trying to spend 20-30 min a day out there as time allows.

Been a BUSY couple of weeks. The baby came less than a week after the OP and that has consumed all my time. I have been fortunate to have the last 6 weeks off with her and my wife and still have almost 2 to go.

I got the storage unit emptied into the barn “just in time” before my deadline so much of the stuff just got dumped randomly. I have started going through boxes of stuff and begun organizing. It’s currently a mess though.

My MIL is doing a whole house remodel and I was able to grab all her kitchen cabinets. Hopefully will get a couple hung this weekend.

I had a little time this afternoon to go through some boxes of stuff I was given when my granddad passed years ago. I had his craftsman tool box and quite a bit of his hand tools but still have boxes of stuff to go through. Found lots of US made sockets and some neat irons. I need to look into a rebuild kit for that rachet.

Congrats on the baby!

Be careful on keeping the space in control. You can stuff a lot in there and soon not be able to access any of it.

Thanks!

Yeah that's a big concern. I'm working on getting everything in it's place and off the floor to help prevent that.
