OK I got tired of looking at this embarrassing old cart. I bought it with tanks and
Complete set up for $40. So I didn’t get hurt on it, but it’s time to reinvent
The cart. I’m using material left over from my stairs used on my attic access
System. Today I had a snow day .,,and was able to get a lot done, still
Needs a lot of work...

Very nice, did you CNC plasma the flat pieces with the arcs? I thought I saw a Beverly shear in one pic.

Also interested in the dimple-plate...do you punch-press or hand-dimple each one with a screw-thread forming device?

No, these were all leftover parts from a rolling star case I used for my retracting attire access. The dimpled part is a star tread. The shear is BAILEIGH MPS2
It’s a BEVERLY knockoff. It works great !
I just used a mini 4.5” grinder to cut out the plates. Pretty crude, but it worked .
I used an old oxygen tank I had to dispose of to make the cradles.
Marked out the rings and cut with mini grinder using slicer disks..

I might have seen if I could trade the bottle. I am where it's slow to open on my phone but think I see a screw clamp for the bottles. I like that.

The bottle was pretty old , and has no base , round bottom. So the supply house did not want it . I think I will keep the top tank and display as suggested..
Today I got a bit more done. Mounted the wheels, front foot rests, and started on the hose reel. The PVC will be used to hold brazing rod..I just have to make and install a tool try to keep the extra tips...
Then it’s just paint ......and done !

Here’s some options to consider for your NEXT one. [emoji16]

I too hate chains.

Speaking of carts has anyone ever heard of a OSHA rule not allowing Acetylene and Oxygen tanks to be stored side by side even in a cart?

A small update, i made and welded a tip rack onto my cart..
I would have finished it up and painted it but,, it only got to 38 degrees
In my shop today. It may be a few weeks before I can get it sprayed...
The last pic of my work bench shows the color Ill be using....

I am in Canada but I am quite certain you are confusing oxygen and acetylene tanks side by side in use as opposed to tanks being stored.

The OSHA inspector was correct.

Per 1910.253(b)(4)(iii): "Oxygen cylinders in storage shall be separated from fuel-gas cylinders or combustible materials (especially oil or grease), a minimum distance of 20 feet (6.1 m) or by a noncombustible barrier at least 5 feet (1.5 m) high having a fire-resistance rating of at least one-half hour."

Basically, to be OSHA compliant you must either immediately disassemble your torch setup and move your O2 bottle 20 feet away, or use an OSHA approved cart (big $$$).

As I work in a high profile shop with many visitors, we have one of these carts - though for safety we still prefer to disassemble and move the bottle to the designated O2 bottle coral (21' away).

As to the comment that most shops are operating illegally, you are correct. Many are not aware of this requirement, and most of those who do feel that it is not worth their time or $$ to comply. Please note that many of our safety guidelines/rules were generated after accidents, and I am not one to blindly follow rules - but for safety we must sometimes understand we don't know everything and listen to those with more experience than us.

Be safe out there!

Yep on the bottles
I had to put a 1/4" steel divider in the bottle rack at work, oxygen on the left everything else on the right.

Okay. I totally understand that with the divider. But it was mentioned that they were not to be side by side on the same cart which is what I felt was incorrect info.

Its a deal with a building fire I believe. I don't remember what happens to O bottles but the slug melts on acetylene and it burns off. Pressure relief would go on O2 bottle.

Sorry lis
I ment the storage cage outside got the divider not the cart.
We always had to take the regs off and cap the tanks but they were ok with leaving them on the cart together.

That totally makes sense, Jim. Thanks.

Here’s my home made storage rack. No acetylene.

Its made of steel and you can fix it. I like 4 wheel, caster in front. My cart was gone, I had been using a corral with hundred ft hoses, one on acetylene and one on LP, changed shop layout and went back to a single gas short hose on cart. I wanted it,,,wanted now and whipped it up.

Cool I like that spring latch system...

That tandem rig, with one bottle in front of the other - do you have any tipping problems with that, or is it okay as long as you're careful?

I have a space I'd love to put my bottles in, except the cart is too wide. I thought about a tandem setup like that, but I wondered if they might be tippy when rolling them around.

That is very stable it has never tipped.
Since 1968
I'll get you a couple of better pics it has a spring pull latch on the other side to keep the bottles tight, if you want.
