Can anyone recommend me a new pin punch set? Currently I'm looking at the Beta, Gedore and Toptul 6 piece sets. I'd like something in metric....

I'm quite happy with my PB Swiss punches, if those are available to you.

OK,
Call me stupid (My wife does), but what are pin punches used for? Punching out pins? I ask because I've got what I think are some of them. They range form about 1/16" down to the size of a needle.

Wasn't APMech making/selling some sets on here, I thought I remembered reading he was making metric also but haven't heard anything about them in a while.

I have an older set of snap on that are great for the times I need them, they are just standard.

When it comes to pin pinches I'd go with Mayhew. I've used pin punches from PB Swiss, Snap On, etc and the Mayhews seem to hold up the best.

The Facom + Peddinghaus/MOB punches can also be found under the "Racodon" name. "Dako" + "Habero" are also good brands.

It looks like Rennsteig makes Gedore's punches. Is this correct? I found a very good deal on Rennsteig punches and chissels!

I have both starrett and mayhew punch sets in inch sizes. THe starretts I have are 25+ yrs old and are awesome (the set in the wooden cylinder container); they must be made out of a high $ tool steel because they have seen a lot of use with almost no wear. I recently bought a replacement for one that's missing (amazon sells starrett punches!) and it was not marked USA. I haven't used it to see if it seems the same as my originals.

I also have a newer Mayhew set; they are marked USA but I have not used them enough to see how they hold up.

I also suggest starrett. some of the finest punches I've ever seen. I actually use mine with a fixture I made for my arbor press to punch holes in sheet metal.

I've been buying single PB Swiss punches and chisels on sale from Amazon--love them. Incredible quality.
