My place w/ a 3 car garage

I'm in the process of moving into a new place, and getting the 3 car garage set up for my car hobby. The house has a front drive with a swing garage, a nice hand seeded aggregate driveway, and best of all, the back and side of the house are bordered by a bike trail and park. The garage is hidden by the landscaping and trees in the first pic or two; the garage has an arched window in the front of the house.

Nice looking place! The Falcon's pretty nice too (a very tastefully done survivor car)

Glad you like it. I do miss it, it sold to a guy in Australia back in early 2010. I keep up with him via email and hope to one day make a journey and meet him and see how the car is doing. Falcon's are pretty fun cars to tinker on.

Wow it's been a few years... but life's been busy... I have some ride updates, thought you might like to see.

  • In the garage resides this '56 Thunderbird which is a blast to cruise around in.
  • And this '61 Ford Econoline pick up creates quite a stir driving the streets.

I'm making some progress in the garage, finally, after what, 2 years here.. The floor is done in tan epoxy, after a 6 week project, since I had to do a bay at a time, and left each to cure one week.

This week I hung 2 more Gladiator 24" cabinets to make a string across the back from the left corner. Along the back wall there will be 1 30", a series of 24" and one more 30", then the workbench. Bicycles and fuse panel on the right.

Still have to get all the chests, racks, tons of car parts and workbenches organized and cleaned up. Mainly the next thing is to get rid of some of the junk I have collected and make more room.

Gorgeous property. Looks like the one Vanilla Ice flipped on the DIY Network! Seriously, nice garage and nice stable.

Thanks! I checked out Ice's flip, yes the swing garage and layout are similar, lol. I always wanted a courtyard style place where the cars were part of the scene but from the front the garage doors were sort of hidden.

I made a bit more progress on organizing the area. Here's an overall pic:

Starting off on the left side, kinda jumbled yet but there's Vortech blower in the pile, awaiting application..

Back in '95 when I moved into a new apartment, my uncle gave me a big chunk of change as a gift one year and I bought this Craftsman rollaway. I'm a 5.0/5.8L Ford EFI guy so you see tons of Fox body parts like the K brace and the tubular GT40 efi upper intake and a ProM mass air meter.

I have used these shelving units and they are pretty durable but I'm planning on getting a Gladiator workbench, so that my Gladiator Geardrawer will next under it. The 6 foot one holds two Geardrawers under it.

The workbench is a basic Craftsman, w/ vice, bench grinder and 4 inch cut off mounted to a cutting device. Pretty neat, found that while cleaning out a tenants shop.

Thanks, guys, the truck is a riot to drive. Found it in Alabama and the truck was too unique and clean to pass up.. I added these wheels to it, borrowed from the Thunderbird:

That Econo PU is killer man! That thing would look AWESOME at Arrowhead Stadium on Sundays tailgating at the KC Chiefs games!!! You need a blue and silver in big D.

It would look good next to my 1967 Econo van that's getting here soon. That's just a great color combo! Looks fantastic in that new garage!

I'm curious if Andrew in Texas has made any changes/improvements to Andrew's garage in Texas. Not that it was in dire need of any, but that never stopped any of us! Update?

Thats too funny. I also instantly thought of the Vanilla Ice episode as well. Maybe because its fresh in my memory since re-watching all of Race Deck's videos yesterday. I love that garage set-up which allows some privacy to a front garage. I see some porsche twist wheels in one of your pics, i wonder where those belong?

The wheels were a CraigsList find and are currently on my Mustang. I am a wheel fanatic and am always into some wheel project or other.

Rick, with yours and the many beautiful and functional garages here on Garage Journal that have inspired me... yes there has, it's been a busy 2013 so far..

Vaulting ceiling, new lighting, high lifting both garage doors, new Liftmaster 3800 opener, researching and sketching out a 4 post lift installation...

How did this happen?? warning for newbies to the GJ... Over the Christmas holiday I had some time at home and waaay too much time on the Garage Journal... so decided to move forward with a project to improve the space. This work was towards the goal of fitting 4 cars in the 3 car garage.

Here's the step by step on all that work..

Ah, so that's where you have been publishing your progress. I don't venture out of the "Garage Gallery" space too often. For some reason, your photos show up as little JPEG links, which takes a while for my computer to view, but I'll get at it when I have a chance.

Yes I noticed that happens at my work too, due to the hosting site...I have them hosted at Flickr, since they are usually large size. I think I'll just take smaller pix so I can post 'em here directly.

Ok, big news today... My BendPak lift is on order! I'm getting an HD-9 lift which is a 4 post parking and service lift, in BendPak blue. A lot of research, my conclusion is the value, customer service and support are top notch; I've learned a lot about lifts on the BendPak website, as well as from many of the fine GJ'ers here on this forum and other owners I know.

I went for the optional aluminum entry ramps, as my lift position on the floor plan most likely will mean removing the entry ramps to clear the garage door - aluminum will be easier, plus they look cool!

And ordered the caster kit. I don't know how much I will use that, but the plan is to normally place the lift in the left single bay; if/when a service project comes along that needs full access to both sides of a vehicle, the lift could be moved to the middle bay.

The lift will be the 110v model. More flexibility for power locations - the lifting speed being slightly longer is not a problem for me.

Everything's in place, I've measured and drawn up the various cars and clearance in the garage so I can't wait to see how it all goes in. There's been a lot of homework done to date for this all to work as intended.

Attached is a quick .pdf animation, Garage Layou 61 entry.pdf; open it to View Page Display Full Page, then as you page down it steps though the lift moving up.
The 2nd .pdf is a view of two cars on the lift.

I thought this might be appropriate for a wheel fanatic with your ride.

I've got a few of the "Wheel *****" stickers as i share the same disease.

Congrats on the Bend Pak. I've done absolutely no independent research on lifts, but from what I've absorbed around this place, they get the job done. Any other stuff going on?

Wow, you have been busy, glad you posted that other link. Very creative figuring out a way of taking advantage of that odd space within your garage. So was it a vision that came to you while standing in the garage with a beer in your hand or maybe when you were on the throne haha. Well done. Can't wait to see the finished product.

There is a big project that I'm excited about! I have just gotten my 1956 Ford Thunderbird back from the paint shop !!

The past weekend was spent carefully reinstalling the trim, door panels, emblems, and bumpers. The kind of fun project where you loose all track of time and work til Midnight!!

The vision came over :Christmas holidays.... i was on GJ... checking out the lift installs of various GJer's.... as well as BendPak's.... and my 8 yr old daughter peeked over my shoulder and said "we should get a lift for our garage"... and a plan was developed.... she said what I had been thinking...

The 4 post was installed today. Great group of guys from Trendar Equipment in Dallas. The boss, Bob, stopped by as Aaron and Dave were getting it set up. He shared a few stories about their work at the Gas Monkey Garage, they were hired to install the BendPaks that went in for the new garage seen on the FastnLoud show. Very pleased with the work Trendar did for me.

Well as far as my install, it went great. My layouts and dimensions worked perfectly. Although I was sweating it big time when the guys arrived, took a look at the bay and said, "It's not gonna fit in there".... But as we took some measurement vs the new dim chart, we were saved by the Rev "M" HD9. Their concern was due to thinking about the old HD9 which is 7" wider... The Rev "M" really fits my space just right. The only issue was I had planned for the power unit to go left front, but with limited space there we ended up with it on right rear post. The lift came in exactly as ordered and in great shape. Smooth sailing all the way.

Check out the pictures. The truck tucks great into the vaulted space. In these shots the lift is 2 notches from top setting, which leaves about 61" clear under the runways. Putting a car up top I will be able to go full travel.

Fan-freakin'-tastic! You must be chuffed (as the Brits say). It's absolutely amazing how tailor-made your truck is for the space! The bed and cab fit perfectly under your ceiling pattern. Amazing. How heavy are those diamond plate ramps? Might want to rig together some sort of hanging system. Have you had time to figure out what you will do with the electrical cords?

Time to update your thread title, as you now have a 4 car garage! Worked out great, and nice touch with the diamond plate ramps.

Could you run the cords up and plug into a ceiling outlet?

The pictures of your pickup reminded me of watching this pickup drag race when I was just a kid. :)
