What's up garage journal?
My name is Matt, I'm 23 years old and am a full time welder/fabricator at a company that build prototypes and small production runs for point of purchase displays for large beverage companies.
This thread began with me posting up a picture of a rack I made to organize my pliers in my toolbox. Thanks to the support from this board I was able to turn my idea into something great as well as provide you guys and gals with some quality made in USA racks to organize your own pliers!
Here's the details
Price: 35.00 shipped to the lower 48 states
Dimensions: Each rack is 11.5" Long, 5.5" Deep and 2.5" Tall.
Spacing:The first rack of the set has 6 spaces @ 7/8" and 6 Spaces @ 3/4". The second Rack has 15 spaces @ 5/8" holding 27 pairs of pliers combined!
How to order: To Order a set of Plier Racks please respond to this thread letting me know how many Sets you would like to get. I check this thread Multiple times a day and will add you to the next list!
Payment: when i have your racks ready to ship i will send you a PM with PayPal info for payment
International shipping is available as of right now I have only shipped to Canada and Australia so i do have pricing for those but anywhere else please PM me and I will get you a a quote.

I will be doing colors other than black as well as custom sizes when I fulfill all the orders in the thread!

Thanks, this was not wire shelving it's made of 10 and 7 gauge wire. Bent on a Di - acro wire bender. Dimensions from the front are 1", 3", 1.75", 2", and 2.75" all 90 degree bends and the bemding pin radius was .125". All the wires are .75" on centers

Hope that helps!!

Time, tools, materials, and imagination. It's amazing what talented people can whip up!

Add me to the list of people who might be interested in purchasing...

And looking forward to the wrench racks!

Very nice job man. Did you space the dividers based on the varying widths of your pliers or just standardize using 1 value?

You should market that as a kit. Would love to have the parts them custom weld them to fit my pliers.

Are you in America or Europe?

I'm in North America, Southern Califonia

I made the first 5 with 7/8ths id and the rest 3/4 id

You could sell a ton of those babies on here, I'm sure. A coat of high gloss back on there would be sweet.

My thoughts exactly. Taking them to my powder coater tomorrow morning!

this is a good idea. Only concern is how many people have access to a spot welder.. mig welding them would warp that lower wire pretty bad

Seriously thanks guys this was my first post on the board other than the intro thread. It's great to get some positive feedback and to hear you opinions. I will post pics when I get them back from powdercoat.

Also I can put a list together for everyone interested and when we reach sets of 10 I will get them done and powder coated if you guys are in!!

I would be interested in one or two

I'd be interested in purchasing one.

Seems like you guys are digging them! I've gained alot of knowledge and got some great deals on GJ I'm glad I can give back by supplying you guys with some quality US made racks. When i get these two back from the powder coater I'll post up nice pictures with dimensions and some size options and you can reply with the size to fit your boxes and quantity.

I'll make them in orders of 10!

How tall does the rack stand? I'm interested, especially if it would fit in the shallow drawers of the 44" HF box!

how about an adjustable wrench rack?

pick up any 12-15piece wrench rack and cut it right down the center. now figure out a way to make it pivot at the smallest wrench to accommodate the larger wrenches.

I just got a big plasma cutter so I am making things and doing things over from when I did not have a plasma cutter lol

The tallest point of the rack is 2.75 inches tall!

I can always make one to fit your drawer. I made them 2.75 inches based biggest pair of channel locks

Nice! That's a great idea! Only thing that comes to mind is how to design the slots so that when the rack opens and closes the wrenches will still fit. Hard to explain with words but I'm thinking with slots would get smaller as you made the rack open?

I might be crazy it's around 105 degrees in my shop right now!

Assuming the price is reasonable, I'm in for one or two. They look great, and sturdier than most commercial racks / homemade closet shelf racks.

Sell them? Yes!
But whatever you do, don't give them away like an SK Tools hat.

Good lord, if that free plier rack wasn't in their mailboxes by noon tomorrow , the townspeople would be outside your door with torches and pitchforks!

Looks like I need to buy more pliers!! Going to powder coater tomorrow.

Im thinking about making them in 12 inch sections for shipping costs and selling as a set. One will have larger spacing and one smaller.

**********
Soo..
One set (2 units) Powdercoated gloss black and shipped for 25 dollars

I'll organize the list and when we reach 10 sets I'll make the racks and ship them within the week.

Now I'm not sure how the forum works and if I need to be a vendor so hopefully a mod can chime in...
