New Plug For Electric Motor - Help Me Wire It Please

I picked up this electric motor a while back and it runs good. The original plug however was falling apart. I had this extension cord that had a damaged section laying around and thought I would use it for the motor. Can I get some help on which wire goes where? I tried and it's not working and I really don't want to damage something. I have attached the motor diagram, terminals and cord. Thanks.

For 120V connect cord white to #4 and cord black to #1 and green ground to case.

Not sure why there's a wire on #1 already.

Which connection is the case? 3? And, if so, if I connect it this way and it blows the breaker, is the motor toast?

There may not be a ground connection for the motor housing. A ground connection is not shown in the diagram. You may have to improvise to connect the ground. If it trips the breaker connecting as the diagrams shows then there is a problem in the motor. The Low voltage diagram is 115V. High voltage is to run it on 230V. The only thing that concerns me is the wire already on the #1 connection. By the diagram only a line wire is connected to #1. Is the wire on #1 been cut off?

No wire 1 hasn't been cut off and it ran when the old plug was wired in. I believe the old plug was 3 wire also and I believe 1, 3 and 4 were used.

Should I test 3 to 4 with my meter to see if there is conductivity and therefore a problem?

The case is not #3, it's the housing or frame of the motor. Your photo doesn't show it, but there is a green screw for the case connection in the endbell of the motor, should be near the cover screws. Connecting the ground wire to #3 is directly shorting out the motor windings to ground. In this way the breaker should blow.

For the 120V chord connection, leave the internal motor wiring connections as shown in the photo. From your 120V chord, Black to #1, White to #4, Green to Green Ground screw on the endbell.

Another pointer the motor is listed for 22A@120V. I would expect a 1Pole 20A breaker to easily trip when the motor is under any load, maybe even with unloaded starting currents. Second is your chord looks to be #16 AWG, way too small for a 22A load, OK for a bench test no load, but a sure melter and smolder under the rated load of the motor.

Be mindful of the way the red conductor beside #1 is being pushed in to the # 3 blade terminal by your new power cord. The vibration of the motor can eventually abrade the red conductor insulation and make it have unintentional contact with the terminal # 3. JMO

The red is on #2. The actual printed number is hidden behind the black wire that is attached to the screw terminal for #3. You can barely see part of the number peeking out from under the wire.

Yes it does look like that but Its hard to tell as That would mean theres 2 spades in between #1 and #3 which doesnt match the label. I think red is unplugged.

But what i am asking about is the wire on the #1 screw terminal/lug...
