I've been reading lots and lots of posts on here and still unsure which way to go. Starting construction on a 40x56x16 pole barn and the bid includes putting up 2" vinyl backed insulation between outer metal and framing. If I go this route will I be able to add more insulation when construction is done? Should I skip this part and insulate with fiberglass myself? Planning on lining inner walls and ceiling with white metal just really confused which would be the best way to insulate

depends on how much snow is flying.. Las Vegas if
mine is about the same size, I insulated with fiberglass and its a bear climbing a ladder up to fasten the insulation, but got it done.. I have commercial girding, 2X6 framing inside, so that made it much easier.. sheetrocked the entire inside, that made a HUGE difference.. want to put the metal (white) ceiling metal in next.. then blow in some insulation on it.. just have the foam in the roofing at present.. also have a wood burning stove that I need to put the chimney in for.. hopefully that will suffice.. should have put the radiant floor in with a boiler, but.. ... oh well, do have a 9" slab, so its pretty thick..

Skip the 2" vinyl junk if you ever plan to insulate for real. You'll just have to go through hell to remove the vinyl later since you don't want two vapor barriers.

Figure that 2" vinyl junk is only 2" thick where it is not compressed and even then, 2" FG is only what, R-7? I know 1.5" fiberglass is R-5. It would be a waste of money unless you are certain that you never want to do better than R7. Not only would you waste the cost of the 2" junk but you also have to pay to remove it and dump it.

I did mine with the two inch wish I had not done it. But we have a place right down the road that makes that stuff. I talked to them about the dual vapor barrier. They said just slit it open. No need to remove it. I'm going to make a piece wood or sheet metal with spikes, lots of them sticking out and just perforate the vapor barrier.

Heres a pic I found on here when researching the same thing.

8' wide rolls from a pole building supplier.

This pic explains a lot!

Maximum insulation..least framing...IMO..of course.

Sorry forget the thread.
