I thought I would post a few current pics of my pole barn - specs are:

30x40x12
6/12 pitch roof
12" overhang w/gutters
insulated - 4"
exterior - LP Smartside

I am currently finishing the cupola, insulation and building the split sliding doors. Once I have shop complete - I will move on to running electric and lights etc..

That's a really nice looking building. What are you going to cover the interior walls with? Shouldn't you have wired it before you installed the insulation?

I was actually planning on running the electric in conduit on top of the insulation - is this a bad idea? There will only be a few wall plugs...

30X14X12? Is it 14 deep? It looks longer and/or wider, but sometimes pics look off dimensionally.

Had to edit and say nice barn! I always like the look of a red barn with white trim. It always reminds me of home.

I'm betting on a typo. Looks more like a 30 x 24.

I don't know that it's a bad idea. When I asked the question I was assuming you would use romex and cover the walls with something. That Smart side siding is nice stuff. Show us the cupola when it's done if you don't mind please.

The cupola roof structure has been built - just needs to be covered in metal - you can see the structure in picture 5 (it is laying on floor). We actually choose to go with a 12/12 pitch on the cupola. We started to match the 6/12 pitch but, the roof was so short - it did not look right therefore we went with teh 12/12

Hopefully I will have roofer out to finish installing ridge cap and cupola roof soon (I have had contractor issues - have seperate thread on that subject)

I have been making my double sliding doors - I am using the cannonball system. Doors are 11-9 x 7-4 each. They are constructed with 2x6 framing along with the smartside exterior and trim.

I am in process of painting and hanging - these things are HEAVY!!

they have the crossbuck at bottom with arch at top - arch brings some of the characteristics of my house into look of shop.

Not familiar with "the cannonball system", could you explain please.
Also would like to see how you are going to fit for sealing to wall when closed.
Have not ruled out sliding doors on our build but have had concerns about sealing them. We have everything that creeps and crawls here in central AR and not interested in those kind of visitors.

clutchee - I see your into offroading.....that has been my hobby also ( currently dont have a truck) I have built a couple over past few years....now maybe once I get shop built, I can start another truck build

Got the ridge cap and cupola finished - this really gives the barn a finished look. I am almost done with the outside - still have some more painting to do....

finally got around to finishing the insulation.

I am using vinyl backed 4" insualtion. I rented a scissor lift to hang the insulation in the rafters......I am scared of heights - and this job SUCKED!!! and working in teh rafters was not the coolest place to work either...

After about 14 hours of labor - I finally got it finished....

The reason I am applying the insulation in this manner is to help it keep as much of its 'R' value as possible. My original builder convinced me that if we install it between the metal and wood structure - the insulation would be compressed and loose a lot of its 'R' value.

Hate posting a 3 year old thread, but I had a couple questions. I am building a 15 x 18 foot pole shed for my small tractor. I went with those dimensions to make use of 3' metal panels. I am using metal on the roof, but am having a change of heart moment and want to explore siding before I commit to metal. The Smartside looks promising. How did you attach it to the girts and get the required 16" spacing they recommend? What thickness panel did you use? As I've said, my building is a simple shed to store my tractor and some other things laying around my land. How has it been holding up? Thanks for your time.
