New Pole Barn, starting wiring

Good morning folks,
I've built a 40x50 pole barn, steel sided, 6x6 poles and it will be steel inside as well. There is infloor heat piping installed in the concrete floor.
Beginning to run the wiring, there's a 100A panel already installed.
Do I have to drill thru the center of each 6" post for runs of wire, or can it be run along the strapping (2x4's).
Many thanks.

If you have steel "wallboard" protecting it then along the 2x4 studs will be fine. Keep it centered of course to protect from screws.

Thanks eljefino,
I think you might misunderstand my question though- sorry!
I have 6x6 wood poles all around, and horizontally running 2x4 strapping (not vertical studs) to mount the steel inside panels.
I meant do I have to drill thru the center of the 6x6 poles to run wires or can they run along the tops of the horizontal strapping.
Another way to ask this is, what's the minimum distance to wiring behind the steel panels?
Many thanks,
