Hi guys first time posting but have been reading for a long time. Ive finally decided to build a new barn this spring. I've been wanting to do it for a few years now. I have a few questions that maybe you guys can help me with. First of all I will probably be doing this myself I have had a few quotes from bigger builders and it wasn't bad but more than I expected. I am plenty capable of doing it with help from my dad and a few friends. Right now my old bank barn is being torn down by an amish crew. Once that's done I'll have an excavator come level of the old bank and spot for my new one.
What I have decided on is a kit from menards. Ive heard good and bad about their stuff but i think it just depends on which one it is. The one where I'm at seems good and have always been helpful on big projects.
Im looking at 36x56x14 with scissor trusses 10x10 OH door 4 windows and walk door. I want that high so I can put a 12x 36 loft in. So after a lot of research on finishing the interior I decided to go book shelf girts to make finishing the inside easier. Has anyone done that and how was it putting it up? Ill put house wrap on and then faced batts or batts and plastic. And for ceiling ill probably use batts also because i think it'd be to hard to blow in with out much room up there. What do you guys think of that?
I also want to use the wet set sturdi wall brackets to set my columns on. Anyone ever do this? I have watched RR builders do it on most of there builds.
Now the next thing is I work at a steel building company so I am currently in the works of getting a quote for a building which will be around 10% above cost to make it. I know the slab will be quite a bit but I'm thinking if the numbers are right with me getting a metal building at cost I'm sure ill be almost the same maybe a little more in overall cost vs the pole barn. id just use the vinyl backed insulation and maybe some liner panel on the wall to finish the metal building. I can get stuff like that at scrap price if we have a bad coil color or something cut to length.
If they are close which would you chose?
I want to stay around 30k for initial build and concrete and a little interior work the rest i can finish up over the summer electrical, liner panel, loft, ect. Most of the big builder want around 28-36 just to put the shell up with all the doors and windows. My kit from menards with scissor trusses, house wrap, batts for wall, concrete for wet set brackets, tax and delivery is around 21k. I may hire the concrete slab out but can do that also. But i figure about 4500 doing it myself. I would like to have this built so it would just be up in a few days vs a few weeks but 10k seems like a lot to put up a building I could be wrong though. What do you guys see for an average cost to just out up a shell? Im sure there are some local crews that would be cheaper. Im picky though and like things overdone not underdone or **** work
Sorry for such a long post just looking for a little input.
