Hi All,
Nearing the end of a long new home build and pursuing a clear sealer for both finished basement 1200 sf and garage 1800 sf. (Almost certain SEC Sealer)

Both floors are very well burnished and incredibly smooth and flat without any tooling marks. Based on all the other information in this forum, I am leaning toward using a diamabrush unit with 60 to 100 grit pad to achieve the right profile and help with uniformity for any small deviations that might exist. I do not need any surface correction only need to establish a good profile and perhaps (if looking very closely) remove scratches from power troweling.

Is this the right path for clear coatings? I don't see any previous discussion regarding clear sealer prep and was concerned if I would introduce tooling marks that would show through a clear coating.

What have you seen or can suggest?

**I tried to develop a clear subject line for this to be reference to the next person looking for similar.

Hi, a great solution for a clear coating would be our SPGX one part Polyurea. Non-yellowing and very easy to apply. As for prep we would recommend a very light scratch with a 100 grit or higher. Even a floor buffer with a 3M black pad may be good enough to microscratch the surface for adhesion.

Hi, I am on my way with the SEC sealer. Order arrives this week. I will post some photos of the project as it progresses. We will use a gray stain followed by two light coats of sealer. I ended up NOT using a diamabrush or grinder to prep. I was really worried about losing the natural figuring of the concrete that we worked hard to achieve when it was poured.

Instead, I did use a floor buffer and a 60 grit screen followed by an aggressive pad to clean. We will etch, hand wipe, stain, seal.

This is the way and btw... SEC II Sealer has just arrived on the scene, it has VERY LOW VOCs 100 g/l and great performance!

Thanks Scotty. I appreciate the help along the way. A question:

Would a T Bar applicator with a microfiber or 3/8 nap head work to apply the product? These are used primarily in wood floor refinishing to apply oil or water based finishes. Do roller overlaps or roller marks (not ridges) tend to level out well with this product?
