What if I don't have any buddies? :(

When I go more than once thru the checkout line, I go out put my stuff in the car and come back in. If I get the same cashier I ask if they saw my evil twin a few moments ago.

Regards,

Acura V6 Crank Pulley Bolt - 1 HF Ratchet - 0

Oh well, I'll go see if they will replace it. It was my first time using it too.

What drive size is that? Is that the first time the crank bolt is being removed?

1/2 drive with a 2 1/2' cheater pipe. It was removed 20,000 miles ago but it didn't make any difference. Took the same effort as any other V6 crank bolt that I usually break loose with hf breaker bar and same cheater pipe.

That is disappointing

That flex head ratchet wasn't meant to be used as a breaker bar...

Yeah I know. I wanted to give it a shot after seeing that stress test video. I'm not knocking the ratchet but I can't say much about it since Ive only used it once.

I just made a trip to HF to check these new ratchets out in person. Between the guy getting robbed in the parking lot and the smell of dirty immigrants and cheap rubber, I was reminded of why I hate going to HF.

LOL

But back to the ratchets in question, are they a sealed design? The lever does look sloppy, not the typical sealed lever you would find on an apex thin profile or dual 80. That's the biggest issue i see with these. Oh, and the clunky flex hinge, too damn wide.

Wonder what the outcome would been if it wasn't a flexhead?! Why don't they make those in a non-flex I have no dam idea.

Looks like the pin failed. That's surprising after watching the abuse it took in the youtube video. I guess we know the mechanism isn't the weak link.

Edit: I agree with others that this these ratchets shouldn't have a pipe put on them.

Oh my God!! A twenty dollar ratchet failed when used with a three foot cheater bar on the hardest bolt in the automotive world to remove. Big time air impacts fail to remove that bolt. Breaker bars from Snap-On have broken trying to remove that bolt with a cheater bar. Any equivalent Snap-On flex head ratchet trying to remove that bolt would also likely fail.

Harbor Freight could make **** out of titanium and somebody would be disappointed after paying $10 for it. These are FABULOUS ratchets for the price. Use them for what they are intended to be used for and they will last a lifetime. Use them in any manner and they will last longer than $20 will. If this exact same thing happened to a Snap-On flex head somebody would say, "Well that's way beyond what it was designed to do" and furthermore defend Snap-On when they refused to warrantee it. Take this abused tool back to Harbor Freight and you'll be out of the store with a new one in under two minutes. Sometimes I can't believe what I read here.

A little off topic, but on these Honda crank bolts is there room for a 3/4" drive ratchet/breaker bar? Seems like one would be money ahead on a cheap 3/4" drive tool if you regularly work on Honda's.

seen many people just throw an impact on it. since they are FWD, you can remove a fender liner and wheel and hit it with a big impact...

The FUEL M18 high torque will take it off. The non-FUEL M18 model may or may not take it off. The FUEL M18 definitely will.

no offense, but the average joe trying to do things on cars makes me laugh. no real clue as to how to do a lot of things and then they blame a tool for breaking or not functioning... like using a 1/2 drive RATCHET on something that requires a large breaker bar to take off.. or the average joe uses an impact and says it won't take something off, and he has a foot of extensions so he can do it comfortably.

Or has the free with purchase impact running off the 3 gallon pancake compressor.

It was the fuel sadly.

Couldn't agree more

funny you say that. I know someone that bought HF 1/2 earthquake impact and a pancake compressor with 1/4in air hose trying to take off a crank bolt and then blamed it on the impact was a pos lol

Since the thread is hardly on topic anyway just wanted to say thanks for this. I know they're all over the Web of the WorldWide but I used this one today (on the skinny, long flex 1/4" one end and 3/8" other end ratchet).

I've never had the FUEL M18 fail on anything. WoodstockVA has also had success with this tool removing Honda crank bolts. If this ever happens to me I'll just have to dust off my Nitrocat 1250K. I don't put up with **** from Jap bolts.
