new project in mind

Having just sold our old home that included my 28 x 50 garage ,16 x 28 was my shop area, were all the fun things happened. our new house has a descent 16 x 28 garage ,with my idea of making it a 24 x 48 ,with my shop area being 24 x24, I might possible extend it another 6-8 in length but only 16 feet in width is possible . Walls 10 feet tall, no plan for a lift. now some thoughts needed. My first project will be restoring my 1963 Studebaker R-2 Lark and hopefully adding a Hawk in years to come. Is 24 foot length a descent size to use ? I know more is always better , any personal experiences. Also can a person haul 24 foot rafters on a car trailer legally, and if so in what configuration on a trailer ? Thats my starting thoughts thanks

I got a 20X24 garage and have done a jew projects in there it can be tight
sometimes but can be done.

My advice to make the garage depth as large as possible, and check with your local DMV and see what they require in your state for lumber hauling length restrictions.

Depends on how long your car trailer is. Most state have a maximum over hang both front and rear

And don't forget maximum legal width is 8-1/2 feet and height is 14 feet without permits.

I would go as deep as you can even an extra 2 feet in front or behind a project can make a huge difference in workability.

As far as hauling trusses I always have them delivered, to me its worth the extra $$$, however I did have to go get some this summer to meet a time table and I used a pontoon trailer, I would check and see what rental on one would run (In my case I used the Clients).
