On new puma air compressors the headbolts need to be retightened after it has been run enough to be warmed up. I found this out after I had to replace the center head gasket between the 2 reed plates. I guess the aluminum head with cast iron cylinder contributes to this some. Hope it helps somebody.

That sounds like shoddy craftsmanship or quality control. Those bolts were not torqued correctly at the factory.

Have not heard of this, but IR has a re-torque requirement for head bolts on older Type 30 compressors whenever new gaskets have been installed.

Not just Puma! The manual for my 5hp 60 gal Quincy states to re-torque the head bolts to 21 ft lbs after the first hour of use.
