Hi Everyone, this is my first post. I've enjoyed lurking for some time.

I wanted to send out props to Racedeck...

I recently purchased flooring for my 20'x20' garage, and it is fantastic. I worked with Ashley, and she was very prompt and knowledgeable in her replies to my questions. I also got a screamin deal after mentioning that I was a Garagejournal member. Shipping was quick and the whole transaction was smooth. I was concerned about the 'clack clack' sound when walking on it before purchase, but after installing it, it doesn't bother me at all. Looks fantastic.

My wife loves it too...a major plus!:bounce:

Thought I'd introduce myself a bit as well...I'm a displaced Northeasterner working as a professor at a university here in Louisiana. I do a bit of car tinkering and wood working. No serious mods on the VW, but likely some fun projects coming up over the next year.

Great forum, I've gleaned tons of great ideas off the various posts.

Wow, that looks great! I am also considering RaceDeck, but the Freeflow design. I don't think I've seen too many of the open style tiles here on GJ. I wonder how they would work in a working garage vs. the traditional closed tiles?

Thanks everyone. My wife and I spent Saturday afternoon hanging out in the garage, just drinking coffee while the kids played. The floor changed the entire feel of the garage.

@what2do...I really like the closed tiles because of the look. I think that Freeflow would be cool if you really drag alot of snow inside. Otherwise, I don't see a need for it.

@rikmeister...yeah, I've been bitten by the VW bug. The GTI is one of the best cars I've ever owned.

I got the solid, diamond tiles. The water sort of beads up in small pools on top of the tiles. I can't tell how much if any slipped through the spaces between the tiles. A tried a couple different methods to keep the floor clean like sweeping and mopping, but as my garage is so small, the easiest and quickest method (and what worked the best) was just to wad up an old bath towel, wet it a bit, and run it across the floor. It takes under a minute to do my 20x20.

it sure does get expensive and its worth every penny, I have had mine about 10 years I think, long enough that I don't remember when I bought it so whatever I paid for it is long forgotten but I still smile when I walk in the garage.

Melted a bunch of them while welding or plasma cutting, damaged some with heavy metal parts scraping on them and still worth it. My new garage, I left a small (10ft.x12ft.) area without Racedeck for welding.

I have a Red border on mine but I really like the Red/Black/Red border you put in, might have to copy it :)

Onempty -
Not with the tiles but ON the tiles :) - Yes you can use floor jacks on RaceDeck. As long as the wheels are at least 1/2" you should have no issue with heavy vehicles

Hi Drew, great job! Can you expand a bit on what you did to your garage door? Looks like you painted the framing and applied some sort of foil inserts. I have the same sort of door and would like to hear how you dressed yours up so nicely.

The door does appear to be a self-insulated door. The black parts are interesting.
