Also from PTEN:

"Jim Davidson, general manager of SK Professional Tools, announced the launch of a new American-made Double-Tooth (DT) ratchet series, which will feature classic SK body designs with the new DT mechanism technology.

“At SK, our engineers are continuously working with auto techs to develop breakthrough products with practical applications,” Davidson said. “The new Double-Tooth technology immediately upgrades a ratchet you’ve most likely had for years to vastly improve the tool’s performance in a matter of seconds.”

The DT ratchets have been engineered to offer automotive technicians the option to add tooth count to a standard ratchet, which would instantly cut the original arc swing in half, while doubling the precision of the tool.

“When talking with techs, we discovered this ongoing frustration of not being able to completely gain access to areas with very limited space and movement, like getting to bolts in tight places for example,” said Brent Solar, SK Design Engineer.

“We kept that in mind when we went to the drawing board, and we came up with the idea to keep our classic ratchet body, but with a new interchangeable mechanism that improves the tools versatility while boosting overall performance.”

The new 1/4” (120-teeth), 3/8” (80-teeth), and 1/2” (100-teeth) Double-Tooth Ratchets are available for purchase online or from authorized SK distributors. Techs have the option to purchase as a new ratchet or just the mechanism for an existing ratchet body.

Today, as part of IDEAL INDUSTRIES, INC., SK’s distinctive, high-performance, polished SuperKrome tools are made in America by a global, family-owned company headquartered in Sycamore, Illinois with additional manufacturing facilities in Colorado Springs at Western Forge.

With more technicians now buying their tools and gear online, earlier this year SK launched its e-commerce site (www.SKTools.com)."

SK is generally good stuff. Before I replaced any of my ratchets, I'd want to see, touch and feel. I sense a visit to HJE, next time I'm in Kansas City

They quit making the selector green. A lot of guys really liked the green anodized selector. SK says they can pump out the ratchets faster without having to bother making the selector green. What they don't realize is that a lot of guys were buying the ratchet for the green selector!

The green selector was kind of cool, but that is their new pear head. This press release is about the upgrade to their old round head ratchets. It's old news - many of us have bought and installed the upgrades, and liked them.

+1 On the green selector.. I need a new 3/8 ratchet like I need a hole in the head, but was looking seriously at their new ratchet. Without the green selector, probably not going to pick one up. Just my opinion

Green selector or not, I'll be picking up the 1/4 and 3/8 replacement cartridges in the spring.

I just got a new DT in 3/8. It's nice and smooth yet it does have subtle double click, like a major and minor, unlike a metronome for example. Again very subtle and not an issue. Overall a pleasant surprise. Let's hope the USA doesn't go missing like the green selector on the pear head.

I read that it is true; eliminating the green selector speeds up production but they also said their polling showed most people did NOT want it. You can't please everybody. Most likely, they have created a collectable.

To be clear -
The green selector was never an option on the ratchet being discussed in the original post. That was only offered on the first run of the new 3/8dr pearhead ratchet.

The original post is a discussion about the new DT series of ratchets and their drop-in replacements for the original Roundhead SK ratchets.

So, a question about the finish on the new 3/8" ratchet upgrade insert ... my current SK 3/8" round-head ratchet has a shiny chrome selector; however, the pic provided on the HJE site appears to show a selector surface that is a rather gray, dull, finish. Is the new selector not shiny chrome?? Or, is the HJE image not an accurate representation?

Based on the link provided by davethorik, it sure appears that the new insert does not have a nice chrome finish:

I'm sure that functionally it makes absolutely no difference whatsoever. But it would sure look nicer if the insert had a nice chrome finish.

SK posted pictures of the insert on their Facebook. Confirmed not shiny.

Anyone know if they are shipping out the 1/2" drive ones? Looked a week or so ago, only saw them on SK.com for premium $$$, hje and others only had 1/4 and 3/8 listed.

Mav, you ever tried a Wright twin pawl? I really like them, they have the tick tock twins.
I like them maybe better than SK in 3/8. However, Wright never made a Roto!
I feel confident if the DT is as good as is said on here, a twin pawl Roto would be the bee's knees. I know someone here already posted a pic of a Roto with a DT insert, can't wait to try one in mine.

This thread got to me and I just ordered the 1/4 cartridge from Epstein's. When you get the 3/8 upgrade installed in the roto, post up a review of what you think of it.

And the Wrights are really nice. I have a 3/8 flex and 1/2 10 and 15 inch dual pawl ratchets. But I have a soft spot for SK as my first ratchet was a SK Wayne 1/4 which I still have.
