New to me... but it is old. I went to see a guy about some tools today, when I get there he opened this cabinet to show me the tools... well it only had a few hand tools, mostly old meters, and a few diagnostic tools for refigeration.

We made a deal on the few tools I wanted, and I asked him if he wanted to sell the cabinet... he said if I bought all the stuff in it, and I got it out of his garage today, he would GIVE me the cabinet. He went on to tell me it came from a local shipyard, and was built on sight with others like it, some smaller some bigger. He brought it home around 1980, and said it was already old then. We talked for quite a while, I mostly listened as he reminisced about his work at the shipyard. It turned out to be a great day!

It has a stainless work top with a 6" backsplash, 40" wide, 24 1/2" deep, and 34 1/2" to the top. The bottome frame is 1/4 thick angle with 2" casters. I think it is made out of old heart pine, and it was origonally battleship grey. I will post some pictures of the tools as soon as I can get some pics...

Sorry about the long post, old items hand made out of necessity are interesting. Any suggestions for a paint color? Maybe the bottom frame one color and the body another?

Very cool cabinet. Looks stout and has plenty of character.

As far as color, I kinda like the faded red. If I did a repaint though.....it would be the reddest red that I could find.

Or battleship gray with some type of battleship markings.

The only tools in the deal that stood out was the Lisle impact driver, the Niehoff battery clamps, Milwaukee blades, and the 5 Ridgid aluminum pipe wrenches. I paid $10 for the small ammo box of tools and $25 for the pipe wrenches. I sold all the misc stuff to a frien of mine so I didnt include that cost.

JustBob,

I don't know who made your newly found plier or when it was made. But, I have that exact same plier. It's an unusual design... it's basically a thin nose linemans plier with a slip joint.

So, I hope someone with some knowledge of these pliers can supply the missing details. Inquiring minds want to know.

Nice box by the way. I love homemade boxes, especially if they are made well.
