OK So the other day I ordered a new Wen 6502 belt/disk sander. BTW, I did use the search function with no results.Anyway for the price it seems as if this will do the trick.Does anyone have or used this sander? I plan to use it on my welding projects. I read a lot of views and most of them were favorable.I am attempting to make my welding joints as compatible as possible. Thanks, Ken

Someone on the web said that that model of sander isn't strong enough for metal? Maybe check the owner's manual to see.

I just bought an el cheapo sander yesterday at HF. One of the $13 handheld craptastic ones (gets good reviews though), but the clamp mechanism seems weak. I will use it next week to help a friend sand/paint some steps.

You are on the right track with a disc/belt combo sander.

That Wen looks anemic at best. Spend a few extra bucks and get the HF 61750 6" belt x 9" disc. Enough power to get some metal work done.

Sir, If you would take the time and read the first sentence it clearly states that I had ordered the Wen 6502.

Well then why ask, you already bought it:headscrat

But to follow up then, you bought cheap, crappy, and underpowered sander when you couldve paid a bit more and purchased a proven cheap sander.

Sir, again if you would read the first post. I "ordered" it and was asking if anyone has one and what they think about it.Do you have one?Your opinion is, well never mind. I would like to view some of the documents for what you have stated. Many of the reviews that I have read are favorable. My review will be posted hopefully late next week.I value your professional expert opinion.

my guess would be like most inexpensive belt/disk sanders out there, tables arent aligned, and many have plastic parts that may not hold up well to sparks.

mines larger, and still has many plastic parts...

sure, i could have spent a LOT more money, and gotten something that was more 'substantial" but mine works just fine for what i need it for, some light deburring, and "matching" of multiple parts after they've been cut....

CC Thanks for the information.I simply want to true up the joints prior to welding.Simply cleaning up the surface prior to welding. I am on a very limited budget and would have made a more substantial purchase if finances would allow. However, with the situation as it is this will have to do.Thank you for your reply. BTW, I was a CC on B52G 12 years. Ken

Wen 6250 arrived this afternoon.Took all of 12 minutes to assemble.Tracking was just off a bit however, this was quickly rectified.Placed a 3 inch of pine on the moving belt and was unable to stop it. This sander should fit right in with my other less than other name brand tools. It fills all my requirements and this is what counts in my book.

congrats

that it's working out for ya

i'd done without many things that some people deem "must haves".
i managed, over the years, to do all the fab work with what tools and equipment i had available.
it's nice having a belt sander, drill press, and bench grinder available to use when the need arises.
i'm on a "self inflicted" budget, i dont buy tools/equipment that i dont have to have.
sometimes it's bad enough buying tools i dohave to have to be able to do my job...

probably the only reason i have the belt sander and drill press is because i ended up with a $1000 store merchandise credit as 1st prize in a contest from a (somewhat) local tool distributor

CC, Thanks for the kind words.I like you now have a bench grinder and drill press (Pawn Shop find) belt sander (Lincoln) mig welder and now as of in the last 15 minutes a new Evolution Rage 4 saw. I'm tired of screwing with a sawzall so this has now arrived. Maybe you should play the lottery! Thanks, Ken
