Hi All,

I'm not looking to get into a Sears is going out of business discussion. Just wanted to let people know that Sears has changed it's return policy. Returns are now limited to 30 days and only with a receipt. They used to allow returns for store credit w/o a receipt. If this is old news, disregard.

Thanks,
Robert

Years 2016 so they probably got a lot of people shoplifting stuff and bringing it back.

Swipe a $50 sweater and then return it to get tools.

IMO even in today's world, does not sound unreasonable to hang onto the receipt for something that you purchased

This was just an fyi. I'm not saying this shouldn't be the policy. I just remember being able to get store credit and that is no longer the case. Or maybe that was always the policy and now it is being enforced. Keep your receipts.

Warranty has nothing to do with returns, please stay on subject.

I was about to buy an axe from my local Sears a few weeks ago. I noticed the label said "limited lifetime warranty." I inquired what this meant before I paid. There was some uncertainaty and "I think" and "I guess" and they finally decided it meant it would be replaced if it broke, but only if I had my receipt. I kindly thanked them and said "no thank you."
If they have this much trouble figuring out what it means when I'm buying it, I don't want to be there when they're trying to decide what it means when I need to replace it.

I bought one from HD instead.

What I heard and saw at the Sears register people buy tools, use it, clean up then return it for a full refund.

Does the HD axe have a lifetime no question asked warranty? Just curious.

Sears might be getting overwhelmed with people buying Cman yard tools purchased at garage sales and auctions.

Personally I can't imagine anything more ludicrous that a lifetime warranty on an axe, but then I don't know anything about running a successful corporation. :)

30 day return policy and warranty have nothing to do with each other.

We probably should delete this thread before it dies.

Yeah this got side tracked quick. I'm not talking used tools or warranty. I'm talking new still in the package.

This was previously covered.
Also, by definition, it's not possible to delete it before it dies.
If it is deleted it would die that very moment.

And what exactly was your point?

That was a new policy about 6 years ago. It's unbelievable how people scam that place. I don't want to teach any lessons but one guy exchanged his tv every month for over a year & the charge never hit his credit card. Another guy warrantied a pile of garbage tools every week or so & then returned the new ones in another department...

I got on their email list and whenever I make a purchase, I get a receipt in my email. Same goes for Harbor Freight. I paste the link into a jump drive. I always know where they are, don't have to worry about them getting lost, or the ink fading. Print and you're done.

I inadvertently bought 12 point sockets one day when I really meant to get 6 point. I took the unopened pack back to the store a couple weeks later and they exchanged them with no question. To me, that's what a return policy is all about. Now if I put them to use and they did not preform like a $400 Snap On set,,,,well that's my fault for expecting a $40 socket set to perform like a $400 set.
