As soon as I get a weather break I am going to run the electrical. (metal shop building). I am trying to save as much as I can so here is the plan. A board mount for the utility that will have a 100 amp meter . Triplex 2-2-2 (direct burial) to the shop (125'), then into the shop panel. Does this sound ok? Do I need a disconnect at the shop or just penetrate the wall into the panel. Is 100 amp enough or should I do bigger?

You need a 4 wire feeder and URD can't go inside a building at all. #2 is also only good for 90a, which is plenty for nearly all one man shops.

Mobile Home Feeder is a great option for this since it can go inside (in conduit) and is direct burial.

What is your location?

If this is a service feed from meter to a main service panel then 3 wire is okay and #2Al is good for 100A. 4 wire is required for subpanel feeder. Now if there is a breaker disconnect at the meter then the feeder to the shop panel becomes a subpanel feed and a 4 wire feeder is needed. Also the #2Al feed becomes 90A rated. Don't ask why.
I just noticed the link to the metermain you are using, that will need a 4 wire feeder to the shop.

I am in northern California. The meter box does have a circuit breaker or I can use a meter box and a disconnect

Yes, absolutely, I made the assumption that there would be a disconnect at the meter

OK. So do the panel with the breaker, 2-2-2-4 AL MHF to the shop and through the wall (conduit) , into the panel? I am familiar with Nassua and will be getting it there. I just wish they didn't immediately call and email when you visit their site

Disconnect/panel at the meter with two ground rods, then run to a main breaker panel, another two rods there (or ufer). In the shop panel, the neutral bar has to be isolated from the case and all ground wires

That's what I would do.

Are you having this inspected? Technically by the NEC the #2Al is listed as 90A when used as a branch feeder, so the feeding breaker needs to be 90A. The metermain comes with a 100A breaker. Your local inspector may allow 100A breaker on the #2Al.

It will be inspected (California). If they want I can always change the breaker
