New shed/shop build

So I started last week in our new storage shed/temp shop until I build my big metal shop next spring. We have/had a couple of old outbuildings that were falling down and we needed the upgrade.
My plans were for a 12x14 with an 8/12 roof so I could build storage lofts that have some actual room to put stuff in. The sidewalks were purposely built at 7’8” to the top cap so I didn’t have to cut additional siding since I am building this on a pier and beam style foundation.
I poured a simple 6” wide 6” deep reinforced beam and added deck blocks in the middle for a support beam for my foundation.
23/32” OSB tongue and groove subfloor and then framing. We are currently in process of siding the building and decking the roof. Hopefully I’ll get the metal roofing on next week and trim this thing out.
Eventually I’ll insulate it and put some kind of wall covering on the inside, not sure of what yet....maybe just simple 1/4” or 3/8” plywood or OSB and paint it white. I’m running a 60a electrical sub panel in here so I can use my welder and whatnot. Let me know what you think.
Oh and when the big shop gets built, this will turn into storage and garden shed duties......possibly a small hobby workshop for gunsmithing.......the big shop will be reserved for my auto shop.

Thanks, in all actuality, this is a trial/practice run for when I do the add-on for our house. Same style foundation, etc. I’m more or less perfecting some framing skills so it will go easier when we kick that build off. It’s definitely been a need for a long time. You can see the building this one is replacing in one of the pics. It’s an old 10x20x6’ sidewall with a 2/12 pitch roof. And it’s falling down, literally. I have less floor space with the new one but way more usable storage space and almost 2 feet of extra sidewalk height will help with the shelving I plan on installing.

I’m actually going to vent the underside, don’t really have cold wet winters here and the shed isn’t going to be heated/cooled like that. Hindsight says I probably could have done it but I didn’t feel it was all that necessary.
My house doesn’t have vapor barrier under it either, PT joists with non PT subfloor plywood and it’s still 100% intact and going strong after 27 years, copying that plan I’m thinking I’ll be fine.
On flip side, our old house that DID have a vapor barrier, we actually had subfloor rot issues with that house......

Any reason why you didn't put $200 worth of gravel down and compact it before setting forms?

Looks like you have done some work like this before. You're making quick progress! Can't wait to see how it turns out. Good idea on the siding height BTW, it takes a lot of time and money to cut more sheets for a second row and install Z flashing, etc.

You said T&G decking, but it looks like 2x6 floor joists (or are they 2x4?) and OSB flooring, appears to be 5/8. Did you change your mind or I am missing something? It's your building, I don't know how to word this without it sounding like an accusation. Don't take it that way

I didn’t put gravel down because the soil is sandy and drains well. I just leveled and compacted the area where the beam is and the deck blocks for the center support beam.
I edited my initial post as I can see where some confusion lies....The decking is 23/32” tongue and groove OSB on 2x4 joists 16” O.C. with a support beam in the middle. I don’t plan on heavy stuff inside and it is pretty sturdy as is. I don’t have any visible or felt flex in the floor. Saying that I think I would build it with 2x6 joists if I ever did this again. But I think for my purposes it will be fine.
I had a construction business for a while and have LOTS of experience in it from doing stuff like this my whole life. I learned a lot over the years and keep learning more. It’s more fun now that I don’t count on this for my income......

Here’s where I’m at today. Had a buddy with construction experience help me out and we knocked out a majority of the shed. All that is left is putting up soffits and the trim on the outside, finishing the lofts inside and building a door.
So tomorrow I’ll do the door and lofts, move my stuff from one shed to the new one and save the soffits for after my vacation next week. Paint can wait until it’s cooler out here, it’s just too hot to paint right now.

Unfortunately or fortunately, however you choose to look at it, this is only the beginning. I plan on a full 12’ wide x 8’ or 10’ deep “carport” or “tractor-port” on the left side of the building. All of my large law equipment, garden tractor implements/towables and such will go under there.
Then the pool pump will get put on a small slab on the backside of the building under a little cover since the building will have dedicated power and I’ll trench in the pipes for all that. The dog kennel will probably be the easiest thing I do. It will go opposite the carport and be an all-weather synthetic deck over a packed bed of gravel.
That’s just this fall......next spring I’ll be welding up my big shop, stay tuned!

Here in Southeast MI. the building code calls for a 24" deep rat wall & a 4" thick top slab.
