New Shop Build - Extend Foundation Beyond Building Wall?

Just curious - does anyone have any feedback for extending the concrete foundation beyond the wall of a new metal building? I was thinking of having them pour an extra foot or so on each side of the building to give a narrow walkway around the perimeter of the building and (maybe) help keep the dirt, rain, and critters out. Is this pointless?

Don't do it. When it rains the water will hit that slab and run right under the wall into your shop.

If you pour cement outside there needs to be a lip to keep the water from running in.

Another thread where they've done that but stepped and sloped a little. One comment was about it being wide enough to drive a scissor lift around for cleaning gutters. Good idea for Social Security age folks.

That's a great point Bert, thanks for that!

Thanks for bringing that up Bill - I was able to get my hands on that thread and will bookmark it in case I end up extending the slab.

I see you are in Texas, what part. You can pour extra just make sure they put in a 1.5x1.5 drip ledge and the extended part is at the lower level. I assume you are doing a metal building and putting R-panel on it. An extra foot really wont help you and its not enough to walk around. Unless you are doing say 3-4 foot for a walk or 'porch' area dont bother.
