SE WA,
Signed up on Garage Journal looking for Ideas for my shop. This is my 1st post so I'd like to say hello to the forum. Still trying to understand sharing pics from my album hope I get this right.

My shop is not as elaborate as some seen on here "wow" but I think it'll be nice for its intended purpose + it mimics the house. I have ran out of space in my single car garage. This is a 24x36 stick build with a 16ft rollup door, 1 man door, and a single garage door on the right side, yes two garage doors! My 69Maro, four motorcycles need a new home away from home. Should be pretty nice when done.

Here we go, I'll add pictures as this progresses.

Pioneer007 That is alot of header weight on that corner wall.

There will be a 16ft roll up door hanging on the header your seeing. Not sure if thats the reason for the beam, I'll ask the contractor and let ya know.

I understand the reason for the beam, it was the king studs in question. I figured that much weight would require at least three studs on the ends.

Here's a naive question - how do you build/frame walls without poring the slab first? Build in place or find a flat spot on the grass somewhere and then carry the wall to its final location?

Looks great! However, everything is way too green to be in SE Washington...

Agree, I do live in the desert but the neighborhood has been around since 1978, long enough to have older tree growth.

I'v been pretty much been fenced in by my neighbors trees. I also get their leafs in the fall. :)

Its built off the foundation, the foundation wont move or change. Walls were plumbed/squared.

I'm abit confused as to why the pad wasnt laid after the foundation.
Contractor said thats last, seems weird to me but Im not a contractor, I'll ask him.

SE WA,
Been working on the driveway and getting things leveled. Also got the trench dug for the electrics. Drive will be gravel for now maybe concrete in the future.

All that's left are the doors, window, roof, and the concrete pad, then I part ways with the contractor. I'll do the paint, electrical, insulation, and drywall myself. Running out of year, realistically I'll get it painted and electrics, we'll see.

Doing business with Dan at RKD Construction has been great and IMO has done a first class job, thanks Dan!
We still have to settle up I'm sure he'll appreciate that. We still under budget Dan? :)

Ok its been awhile since I posted anything but things are moving forward. Its abit picture heavy but I know you all like pictures.

4 inches of gravel hauled in packed down, more like pounded down. I flooded for a day, let soak in and drain off for a day, following day they poured.

I started moving things in to get an idea how to arrange things, I still have a workbench or two that needs to find a wall. This shop has two places for a work bench unless your really creative, I'll expand on that later, currently its about getting power. I may have to hire an electrician to get no less then 100amp service to the shop, I think I can take it from there.

I'v been looking into lighting fixtures, I think six T5 8ft flourecents would be enough to light this well, wont be any insulation or drywall until its fully wired with lights, sockets, and 3 way light switches so as to turn the overhead lights on in banks of three.
Id appreciate any input on lighting choices.
