I have to pick my final colors for my new shop and I was wondering if anyone have had any problems with any colors holding up, fading quickly or just really regret. The shop is a metal building. 70x55 with the three 18x14 steel roll up doors and one man door in the front. The 70' side with the garage doors is what will be facing the street. The walls are 18' high and the roof pitch is 2/12 so the center height about 23 feet. I need to pick the color of the metal sides, the garage doors, the roof and the trim.

I was leaning toward dark blue sides, galvanized roof and white trim and roll up doors.

In my experience with metal roofs, any dark color will fade or get chalky, the quality of the finish determines how long it will take. We had some metal roofs (dark brown) that lost all coating within 10 years. The roofs were installed in 1987. This is in Arizona, so we have lots of hot weather and lots of sun.

Later products have lasted much longer, but I would sure pick a light color, if it were my building.

If the building is close to the house, wouldn't you paint it a similar color?

IMHO very light colors work best overall with contrasting trim.

I just completed the shell of my building in December and am still working to finish the inside. When I had to pick the colors I knew I wanted a darker wainscoat and white upper walls. I also didn't think I wanted a darker color on the roof so I went with a light grey. After they put the gutters on, which are white of course, you really can't really tell that the roof is different than the sides.

Does the metal come color coated or are you painting? Just be sure to get good quality and a WARRANTY, either way - mine is vinyl sided and the sunny side faded to ****. Took them 2 years, but they replaced it all.

Based on the feedback I've received about fading/sun/Texas, I ordered charcoal gray walls, white trim and doors and galvanized roof. I was able to see the color combination on a local firehouse and it looked very industrial, but the white trim and doors made it really pop. Thanks to everyone.

Lighter colors help with heat deflection as well. That dark blue will make that building unbearable inside when its hot outside.

My roof is white and my walls are clay.

If i climb up and touch the inside (metal building, unfinished inside) of the white roof in the sun,its cool,if I touch the inside of the clay color walls ,theyre hot.
