I am in the process of building a new hobby shop and thought I would show it off as its being built and get some suggestions in the process. It is going to be a 45'x56'x16' with three overhead doors on one of the 45' ends. Well it is getting framed for three doors but one is not getting installed in the beginning because of expense. The door opening are 10'x10',12'x12',10'x10'. It will be set up for in floor heat. I got the area leveled out and ready for the builders. The materials are being dropped off tomorrow and the builders are supposed to start on Monday. The little garage in front of the building will be getting moved after the shop is built.

So far here is what I have for a floor plan. I am going to loft the room section in the upper left with an 8' ceiling so the upper area will have a 7' ceiling. The room in the corner will be climate controlled and used primarily as a machine shop. The area above it will be mostly used as an office and man cave. The area in front of it will be used as a wash bay and will eventually get a paint both curtain divider and ventilation. I will be putting a 10,000 lb hoist in front of the lower 10' door. Right now I am trying to decide where I want to put the bathroom and mechanical room. I am leaning on putting the mechanical room up in the loft but, can decide if I want to put the bathroom up in the loft or in the the machine shop room. I would love any input, advice or opinions.

I plan to move it to a different location on the property. It is to nice of a building to just rip down so, I will move it onto a gravel pad and use it for storage. Moving a one stall garage isn't very hard. You run 2"x12"s between some of the studs. Then jack it up slowly and back a trailer in under it. Set the garage down so the 2"x12"s are sitting on the trailer and move to new location. I helped my dad move a garage twice when I was younger this same way. Yes I said we moved the same garage twice and its a long story on why.

Day 8
Builders finished. Well kind of. They screwed up and the steel is 2" below the finished floor height. So is sounds like all of the wainscoting will have to be removed and sent to a factory shear to be trimmed and then reinstalled.

SWEET building.........I love all the photos. Your builders seem to be pretty efficient.

Put the bathroom on the first floor. Easier to plumb and more convenient. You want a utility tub. A standard bathroom sink in a shop is just to dainty.

I am thinking about ordering some floor anchor pots to install when I pore the concrete. The plan is to order 12 and use 2 at the front of the bays to attach a winch to for dragging dead vehicles in and use the other 10 for a frame straightening pattern in a flat stall for what ever project I come up with down the road. No I don't do collision work, but was thinking it might be nice for odds and ends.
Here is what I was thinking about buying.

Installing 2 inch R10 foam board around the perimeter of the building. It is 2 ft down from the top of the concrete.

Yeah it has been getting down in the high 50's at night around here which is a huge sudden change and my bald head doesn't like the cold.

Curious, is there an advantage to pouring the foundation after the building is erected?
It's cheaper. If I had the money I would of poured frost walls and a the floor then put the building up.

I think it will be perfect size. the excavator was fun to play with, but I didn't have it long enough to get everything I needed done. I will need to rent it again to dig a water line in, but I will probably wait till spring for that.

You going with a loft inside?
I am going to put a loft in one of the back corners that will be 15'x28'. I am planing on having my bathroom up there along with my man cave.
