New shop, need help on floor!!

Hey guys,
Fixing to build my first shop, a 30x40. I’ve been looking online for prices on a good floor epoxy, stumbled onto this site, and I had no idea there were this many different options for shop floors!

I’m going to be installing the finish myself and it will be done on a new slab. I’m going to be on a pretty tight budget, around $300-$400ish, but don’t mind stretching it a little for a longer lasting finish. I don’t need a super nice commercial floor setup. Just something nice looking and durable.

What are some good brands that have a pretty good reputation? Also, what type of finish/system do you guys recommend? Thanks in advance for any input you guys have it will be greatly appreciated!!

Welcome. I'm a newbie as well but I researched for months before deciding on epoxy-coat brand (which I'm in the process of installing). They have great customer service and a great reputation on here IMO.

For your size shop, I dont think you will find a commericial/tough epoxy coat in your price range. Even the water based epoxies will likely run over that cost for a 1200 sq/ft coverage.

Fairly new to the floor coating pool myself, but getting anything under $.50 /sf is probably impossible. And if you do it probably won't last long. There might be some clear sealers available for that price though.

Congrats on your new shop. For your budget you really aren't going to find anything that will last for years and still look good. You might want to consider a product that someone else here used for their new garage. It's HD-6600 by Legacy Industrial. Here's the link. It will fit into your budget and might be something to consider.

Agreed. Trying to put an epoxy down for that money is not feasible.

That looks like something i can go with. I really like the way it looks in his pictures. And i am a little flexible with my budget. What about a densifier? I read they are supposed to make the surface smoother but I wonder about the durability. I’m looking for something that enhance the looks of my floor and also make clean up easier, be it oil, dust, water, or anything else i may get on it.

Densifier is a penetrating treatment. Very good treatment.
However, it does nothing for looks. We do have a hybrid but it is only useful on machine troweled or polished concrete/terrazzo( hd40).

A topical sealer adds the good looks.
