My kids think the Pennzoil signs are great. We used to watch tractor pulling on DISH and there was a Pennzoil commercial that said "It's not just oil, it's Pennzoil". They will run around by times yelling that saying while riding their bikes and pedal tractors. That's what has me kinda hooked on Pennzoil stuff. A little more to the story about the hanging sign, he and his wife would look after my kids for about an hour after school a few times a week. I had been going to their house for about 2 yrs but this one time, Marcel was outside in his garage trying to hook up his wood splitter to his garden tractor but was struggling. He is going on 70ish I would think. I figured I would go and give him a hand while the kids got their **** together and get loaded in my truck. Once he was good to go, I saw the sign on the back of a door. I asked if it was for sale. He said no. He then asked what I wanted it for. I explained I had a shop, the tractor pulling comercial and I wanted to start collecting stuff like that to hang on my walls. He then right away said "If your not going to turn around and sell it and hang it your garage, then it's yours". I helped him take it down a few weeks latter and gave him a bag of rags for the sign. I order in 10 lb vacuum packed bags of terry cloth lint free rags for work at $40 a bag so I figured he might like them for around in his garage. He joked by saying he will get all the signs he can find if I can get him more of those shop towels. He has stopped by to see the sign as I told him I made a hanger for it.
I just remembered. When the sign was on the door, he had painted the door with a spray bomb in a silver paint. There was about a 1-2" band of over spray all around it. I wetted a rag with John Deere paint thinner and attempted to wipe the over spray off hoping I would not ruin the finish. The over spray came right off with no harm to the sign. I think it is porcelain. I was relieved and that's how you see it today. Cool story eh?
The other Pennzoil sign came from a local Benson auto parts store. I know one of the counter people and asked about the sign. She gave it to me just like that. Too easy. Didn't want any money for it.
The lighted signs came from a local auto repair shop that my family has delt with for years. He retired and was getting rid of some stuff. I stopped in and got those two. He had a plastic lighted brand new Yokohama tire sign as well but I didn't have enough cash on me. It looked much new that the two I got.
That's my story for the day.
