New Shop Urinal Project

ok. I have a 1/2 bath in the shop, but when the beer starts flowing a urinal just makes sense.

This is my idea, but as usual my son supplied the execution and creative expertise.

We took a couple of old and free fire extinguishers. Cleaned them out and cut them up to fit (made sure the edges were not sharp!). The bottom one is where the action happens....the top one is filled with water (not plumbed on purpose for use in the winter).

You utilize the original handle from the big one to activate a gravity flush. Pex line is run outside and buried underground into an upside down large coffee can filled with pee gravel (yep, pee gravel)......the same result environmentally if I just went out and took a leak in the yard....just better!

It works flawlessly!

That is slick! I need to do something similar because in the winter I'm not fan of going outside to take care of no.1 business.

That is awesome! And the fact that you can remove the water supply from above in the winter is great!

And the best part is it's not very large or intrusive looking. It looks like something that a garage would have in it anyway.

The plus side to your idea is that if you wanted to, you can use it to wash your hands as well if you had the above water supply coming straight down and you didn't touch the sides....

I've used the pink antifreeze a couple of times in the top tank when it was really cold....

none at all. The flush produces only a couple ounces of water but it's enough to prevent smell.

Bought a house with a urinal in the powder room and immediately thought i would rip it out based on the smell, remember the large white mint?

Well the FIL whose the retired plumber mentioned to boil water and pour it down it every couple of weeks.

There has never been any smell.

Love the flush system! Noticed a wet spot on the floor.....tank leaks or just bad aim? Also, are the side pieces splash guards or are they mirrors set up for bragging rights??

My similar solution using an old beer keg... Works well and gets lots of comments. It sure beats standing out in the snow!

yes...a little of both. The wet spot was from testing and install. No wet spots now...most of the time. The piece that we cut out from the larger tank is inserted into the bottom to provide a catch ramp to cut down on spillage. We spent alot of time smoothing out the edges to eliminate any sharp spots!

The side pieces were just for splash but after your comment I think that I may install some car review mirrors..."objects in mirror are larger than they appear"
