Here's to the beginning of Performance Over Style. My wife has been getting my shop built while I'm gone. My original plan was for a 30x32, but the Township put a stop to that. Have to settle for a 16x24. Have to start somewhere. Looking forward to this adventure and a new start. If things work out, I'll buy property and build a big shop. Can't wait to get home! Main power still has to be run as well as getting the driveway poured. That should be finished in about 10 days.

Wow, your wife is a helluva carpenter.........................:) I assume you mean she's there to watch over the contruction. Very nice building, but it's a shame the township limited your size. Maybe should of made it look like living space.

Great looking box and garage. Kindof tight, but easy to heat, cool, and light!

Had to wait for the lift to go in before I did the lights. I’m going to make it that when I turn on the lights it’s like turning on the sun...haha...Originally I wanted a bigger shop, but the township put the hammer down on me.

Looks like a nice lift. After having a 2 post with traditional posts, I would buy an angled post lift if so bought another 2 post. Easier to open the doors.

Thanks. Currently building a 30x30 and plan to have the same lift. Trying to figure out lift placement and have enough room for a long vehicle and plenty if room in front.

I just measured it...it’s 12’ to the center of the post from the garage door. The longest vehicle I plan on having on it is 16’. Leaves me about a foot from the tail of the car and the door and about 3’ between the front of the car and my tool box.

Hmm. Just me being me.

I would like to see the other garage and what’s in it?

Myself I would go wall to wall cupboards right up to the ceiling with lights under. Shove the big box and Half to the left and build a work bench from the box to the wall. Hood can go on side wall. Helmet on work bench.

I thought about doing that, but I plan on getting a 60 gallon compressor that is going where the small compressor is...I’ll take a look at it again. I like the idea of cupboards along the wall. Here’s what’s in the attached garage...

Love the little garages, especially when you damn near got room to park everything inside. Now I seen both.

Both could use overhead storage in cupboards and hang the bikes up by both wheels.

Shed outside for garden ****?

I like the idea of the compressor in the corner. Myself I would switch the cabinet with the roller cabinet/chest with a little cubby hole in between under a solid top for either foot rest or beer fridge like mine. This would maximize wall space above the work bench. I know it’s a pain in the *** to move the big box to get at the breaker box.... I rarely need to hit a breaker though.

We are going to get a shed for all the garden stuff for sure. You’re probably right about the breakers too.
Right now I’ve moved everything into the attached garage for the epoxy guys so I think I’ll put the big box on right and take a look at that when the floor is finished.

So I’ve been thinking about your suggestions. Tell me your thoughts on this.......Ditching the top box on the 72 and getting a stainless top for it. Pushing the two boxes together and leaving 2’ from the end of the boxes and the right wall. Then build a shelf for the fridge to sit on, but high enough for a service cart to fit under...Then I can run cabinets across the wall and hang peg board between the top of the boxes and the cabinets.
Hope that makes sense...I could do a small sketch if doesn’t....

I think I gotcha. I would sell off the top as it would be too short and top bank useless, that would finance a second bottom or a portion of it. Myself I would do this and build a bench with short backslash wall to wall, cover it with formed to fit stainless. Make it tall enough to put the bottoms under(are you planning to leave them on rollers or buildin to the bench kinda like mine.)....

this would allow you full capabilities to use the bench, as well service table storage underneath in the Center. Which also would allow you to store it elsewhere and have leg under room work space.

Yep pegboard space (if you want it) and cupboards above.

I kept mine as versatile as I could for the time being with built in beer fridge storage as well stereo.

I attached my work space and storage in my little 24 squared which houses my quad(soon to be moved into a toyhauler or my folks garage on a quad trailer depending on which way for camping I go) and 72 bronco projec to complete and a spot for my DD car. Once quad gets moved out then compressor can be moved back into where the quad is and my welding table can go back behind the man door. Still need to play with all the heights of the built in bench. Roller box and welding table to get them all the same with different height casters and shims. If I really need more tool storage after the bronco is done then I still can get one more black bottom box. 1/4 of the overhead storage is empty still and more will empty out as I finish off the bronco.

Not sure I want another 72”. I was thinking about selling off my wife’s Kobalt tool box and building a work bench to sit the top box on and putting her tools in that.
As for moving the boxes around, I want to leave them in place and use a service cart for moving around. Having leg room under the work bench would be nice, but I think I’m going to have to go with a shelf for the fridge to sit on so a service cart can under it. I’m going to look into getting a one piece stainless top to cover both boxes so I don’t have to worry about a small gap between them.
Nice set up you have going on. I like it.

To each their own. You got some good ideas yourself. Looking forward to what you do!

I aiming to have a clutter free but tool filled shop. Something where everything has its spot and nothing needs to be moved to get at something.

Another 72 would be nice, but that would take up the whole wall. Still not sure about ditching the top box. I think the extra work top space would be awesome, but I’m not sure if I would out grow the 72 and 54 bottom boxes. All these options...lmao
