I have a storage shed that siding that is rotting. I had considered putting Hardie sheets on. I used Hardie to replace the soffet. It seems to be brittle and the nail gun doesn't seem work well with it. Can you guys recommend a good material that is durable? Thanks.

I'm not real sure. The lower part of the siding is almost a foot off the ground. My son put a new roof on it last year and installed a new drip edge. I just assumed is was due to the humidity and poor quality of siding.

Why is it rotting? Too close to the ground, bad flashing?

I built an exterior wall enclosing 3 sides of a Patio, three years ago, and the Hardi Plank siding went up quickly and look as good as the day we finished the job.

We used Gecco Clamps and my Harbor Freight framing nail gun.

Hone depot sells 4x8 sheets of grooved plywood that has a surface texture to resemble milled lumber . It even comes primed. All I did was cut and stain . At about $50 a sheet I through it came out pretty good .

Can you tell me which nails you used? It appears the Gecko clamps are used with Hardie boards, not 4x8 sheets like I planned on using. Agree?

I used Hardi Plank with 8d electro galvanized nails
I nailed the boards to pressure treated 2X4 frames. My helper and I had never before worked with Hardi Plank or Ghecko Clamps but the wall went up fast and looked good.

I used 4x8 Hardie panels for my shed. Along the edges, I drilled holes and hand nailed. in the middle I used a nail gun. I like that it won't rot nor burn.

It still needs to be up off the ground. James hardy siding requires 6" above grade.
