Is the tip damaged on the screwdriver in the middle, or does it just have some dirt/grease one it? I can't tell from the pic.

I beat that tip up a little. Looks worse than it is. Mostly just that "vapor blasted" stuff getting scratched up.

No, that's just new western forge quality out of the box.:bounce:

Fedwrench,

I really hope you're wrong. S-K drivers made by WF are not S-K drivers... they're Craftsman drivers. This would be a major drop in quality for S-K.

I have a few of the made in France S-K drivers and they have held up well to heavy use and are really worth owning.

True just like Western Forge made pliers with green grips aren't really SK pliers either. SK just needs to find itself. They're rising from the ashes of the old SK, trying to resurrect the brand, and find market share at a tough economic time. I'm pulling for them but, they have a tough road ahead of them. They need to concentrate on their core chrome hardline.

I also still have a few of the French made SK suregrips. They were nice scredrivers overall. The handles get a bit slick when oily, and I've have more than one hex bolster come loose but, they're still nice.

Reviving an old thread here, I dont even know how I came across this again, but I was on the tool truck the other day looking at the new sk screwdrivers and thinking they really ****.. I havent even used them but I didnt like the size of the handles at all.. they dont seem to coincide with the actual driver size.

They are overly long large girth green handles shaped a bit differently from the facom breed, and the stubby screwdrivers arent even "stubby", they have a stupidly long driver shaft.
I asked the tool guy WTF and hes like yeah the new SK people dont know **** about how to actually use tools so theyre having a bit of trouble finding their way sofar

There's no reason to throw the baby out with the bath water just yet. Yes, the new SK screwdrivers leave something to be desired and perhaps they'll fix those handles down the road a bit. However, the new SK chrome and impact hardline are as good as they ever where. You may need to buy someone else's Screwdrivers to compliment your SK sockets but, SK makes great tools and they do it in the USA!!!

x2

the hardline chrome and impact looks good. i wish the ratchets had a little more sharpness to the knurling like the older ones but the mechanism itself seems as good as ever.

the only dog is the screwdrivers. the new hard handles ****. they would be excellent on a pry bar but for drivers they are too big and fat with no taper. who the hell thinks that is ergonomic?

i may splurge and pic up a small set of the cushion grips though.:D

Revival... for one reason: Someone on Ebay is selling some of the Facom-made green screwdrivers described in this thread... I might have bid on a set.. and I might have gotten an OK on my offer, so I might see a set arrive at my place pretty soon.

Anyone interested in whether they're the real deal or not? I'll post a pic if anyone is wanting to know.

It was pretty easy to see in the pictures.
They had that same cheesy "rippling" or whatever you call it on the flat blade drivers.

They don't have that... Hard handle and cushion grips use the same "pro" blade.

I think most of the screwdrivers are the same blade or 2 with different handles stuck on them. I got flea mkt and dollar specials that have lasted as well as any. I traded for a couple new ones at the Sears store the other day and used them a few times, great as far as I can tell, it worked when I picked it up.
I actually prefer a collection over one brand or a set, so much easier to recognize them. I have been buying Menards nut drivers in 5/16 as of late just because of the handle being slightly different and well colored or marked.

Now that I look at it again the stupid tray is only on there cause it got set there when we moved in. It was sposed to be a clone of my truck box but it never panned out that way and the needs are slightly different. The box top has seen several revisions and one was recvently taking a 5 gallon bucket to strip off un used tools and shove a few more rarely used tools down in to the box.
I got some stuff that should still be moved or moved up even, my taps and some cutters are in a low word drawer that could be moved elsewhere, I use it a fair amount and its 1 drawer with lots of variety but I got a touch of envy for the HF44. Smaller drawers are better here.
That's actually a side locker under there, used it to gain more top space.
One of these days I am going to proto type the top to some extent vs a collection of containers although it still will be some form of that. It needs to be easily modified. I was thinking in steps like a set of bleachers.
I could get rid of the side locker and put wrench racks on both ends and accumulate all the extras there. The location is as near perfect as it can get where they sit, it was made in a hurry with no thought (and still there), should have at least had a new board and some screws moved.

What they really need to do is start making the clear green 4 flute handles again.

Everyone seems to love the Williams screwdrivers

http://www.toolsdelivered.com/Williams-100P-19MD-Hand-Tools-Screwdrivers-Driver-Sets

with a lot more drivers, only a few more bucks, and similar handles to the S-K

http://www.tooldiscounter.com/ItemDisplay.cfm?lookup=SKT86006&source=froogle&kw=SKT86006#

Anyone used both and can comment as to how they stack up?

Yeh, I am about to buy as well. I am down to williams, sk suregrip or sk cushion grip. The SK cushion grips look a lot like the snap-on instinct which are sweet.

Actually the SK cushion grips aren't shaped anything like Snap on Instincts. The SKs are made by Western Forge and are the exact same screwdriver as the Red & Black Craftsman professional screwdrivers or the blue & Black Armstrong screwdrivers just at a higher price.

i see your point of 3 sides vs 4. Not a lot of info on here about the cushion grips, most seem to get the old green hard handle ones. As for price, I thought I was missing something when ppl said that armstrongs would be cheaper...
