Fwiw, i tried that this eve. No dice. I went ahead and ordered a different brand socket to replace it. Thanks all for the input, and, sorry to those who got worked up over this.

No matter how you slice it, a ginormous stampy machine is going to occasionally mess up on the tiniest of sockets. You'll find more defects in sockets just because they're harder to spot and they make so many more of them compared to other tools.

I do have a soft spot for SK, as they've done right by me. I also like that the round head ratchets were patented a billion years ago, and we're still very competitive for decades after. If you follow SK, you can pick up a lot of their tools for peanuts on the SK site.

Ive limited experience with sk, but ive got no hard feelings. It was a 10 dollar socket with an issue that makes it a no go for my storage solution, but functionally its just fine. As mentioned, i ordered a different brand to replace it, this one will go in my spairs bin. Ill buy sk again, no worries!

I skimmed through, but didn't see if you did, but:

Did you contact SK or seek a replacement from them? Things miss QC sometimes (stamped upside down, broached wrong, etc).

I've got a Craftsman clear-handle Torx driver, like a T10 or something, where the shank was pressed in backwards. Always fun seeing someone trying to figure out what kind of fastener it fits.

At the risk of improving the quality in your spare socket bin - I'm sure SK would be happy to warranty that for you. It's an obvious defect and I'd believe they'd want to make it right.

I received a 6 mm socket from snap on with no hole. Coincidentally I bought it to fill out a Hansen tray. Put it in a vise and drilled it out, fairly thick also. Probably 1/8” or better. It happens.
