Decided I'd like a set of 3/8" swivel impact sockets and went for the 8mm-22mm SK set. Now, I have the Matco pinless swivel impacts in 1/2" drive and love them, but decided to give SK a shot after using a set a couple months ago. I know for some SK quality has been hit or miss, but what few SK tools I have used/owned have always been great quality.

Here's a few shots of the SK impact sockets:

Yup, poor quality just as I suspected. Box them up and I will pay the shipping to get them to me, then I will send you a set of new HF as replacements for those ol dogs. Man, am I a standup guy, or what? :lol_hitti

Good eye Monte! I didn't notice that, but I still like them. I've never had a problem with SK, although those burrs Monte found should have been caught in quality control. But, functionally, I'll bet those sockets will serve you well!

I've seen Snap-ons with the same kind of burs. They don't impede the performance of the tool. It's just due to the broaching when they're being manufactured.

Yep, my thoughts exactly.

I didn't notice it in person like you can in the pictures I posted but it's very minimal and it was only in a couple of the sockets.

I checked my Matco's up close and they too have a few burrs in the same area as well.

lots of sockets have those, I have found SK impacts to stand up just as well as any truck brand. They all break after a while...

must have been hot broached..........most manufacturers do not remove the "flash ( for lack of a better word)" left after hot broaching.

cold broching usually doesn't leave those, the sockets are under cut below that area.

I've seen these burrs on MAC's E-Torx sockets...hmm I wouldn't buy sockets with burrs for that price.

A lil bit off topic

Make it a sense to use an impact 8mm socket?

Those are my favorite tools.

Complete clones of Snap-on (my guess is they come from the same supplier) at a cheaper price.

Impact sockets will wear out with use. MAC, Matco would never warranty mine because they wouldn't break, just wear out.

The Snap-On and SK will break that retaining collar before the socket wears out. I've never had to pay for those sockets twice. I see in the new Snap-On catalog they now offer both types of swivel impacts. :wtf:

If your working on newer cars I think you will want a 1/4 inch drive set next. I purchased some Snap On on ebay and filled the missing sizes in with SK and they are almost the same size.

 Yeah, I could definately see issues with high torque on such a small fastener...

Whats wrong with using a 8mm swivel socket? I use one everyday with my 3/8 air ratchet. You just have to learn to feather the trigger is all!
