I believe that they are the pins you pull to release the lock on the casters.

I didn't write their name down but, it was a racing cart manufacturer.

I'm not 100% positive, but those new boxes look a lot like the ones made by CTech Manufacturing.

I have a 71 Bronco and every few years around this time someone starts a rumor about how Fords going to start making them again then the big APRIL FOOLS!!! and you feel like an idiot.

It's not a joke. I've known about these for several weeks. I have a flyer from my SK tool guy and have the 40" service cart on order. I'd post the flyer but have been told to keep it under wraps until SK posts the literature first.

No. Since they're SK they have to be 100% US Made and most waterloo carts and chest have been hencho en Mexico for than a few years now

Not a joke. It's just taking SK awhile to bring them to market. SK had them on display at last year's SEMA show. They look really nice in person but, the two larger carts are pretty tall, probably too tall for some people. I don't think they'll be cheap given their racing background. They do look sweet though, although I'd like to see a giant SK old school Green hammertone color cart, I know it just isn't in the cards.

I like these, but I wish they had included holes in the roll cart to store prybars vertically. I like this feature on the truck branded roll carts.

Ha your right. Hopefully they have some tool boxes with better modern drawer layouts.

I imagine the idea is for race crews that can be outside during all kinds of weather they wont rust? I'd say weight but filled with tools its not like your going to lift it in either case.

Nobody is going to lift a decent sized box full of tools especially with casters. That's why SK's pit box has some crazy sized casters. They'll have other boxes not suited for pit and other boxes with full width drawers (two or more).

I'm hoping SK can bring these new boxes to market faster than they brought out the X Frames

Call me weird but, I don't like todays big boxes even though I have a couple. I'm much happier with a 7 drawer cart with a deep top till and lid that can hold 90% of what I use often and is easily moved from bay to bay.

I'd be game if SK made a box like that in hammertone green.

but, I'd compromise and take the bright green.

Why would you want an all aluminum box?

Lighter weight to use in a race trailer.

Look at the wheels, they're meant to be mobile, and with mobile stuff you want them to be lighter.

If you want mobile, you want durable. You point out the wheels... so they're made to be ROLLED, not LIFTED. A KRL722 weighs less than 500 lbs empty, so how much weight are you saving at the expense of durability? Realize that none of those boxes in the OP are as big as a KRL722 either.

I'm not sure where mobility is needed, either. If you need one of these in a trailer, isn't it likely to stay in the trailer?

Same reason some people go with a cart over a toolbox, because they're mobile and they need their tools to be mobile as well.

If you have to park your trailer in one area, and the pits are in another, do you really want to walk back and forth between the pits and your trailer to get tools, when you have the option to bring your tools with you?

Mobility is the key here. If you're looking at a KRL722 then you're not looking for mobility, they're two different things for two different jobs.

I was using the KRL as a reference for weight only. It's an all-steel heavy duty box that holds a lot more tools than the SK boxes in the OP could ever hope to, and it STILL only weighs less than 500 pounds. If you like, a KRA5311 is less than 350 pounds. The tools in the box are going to be more significant weight-wise than the actual box. Add those wheels from the SK box to a Snap-On box and you have essentially the same thing mobility-wise.

Not if you're working with a weight limit on your trailer. Having a car, spare parts, tools, fuel, food for the crew, etc all on board adds up. Saving 100lbs or so is important when it means you can take an extra few axles or shocks with you. In a rally, that can make the difference between winning and not finishing at all.

Or if you have to pack 3 or 4 of the 84" boxes on board (or even ship them by air as some teams have to do), you might save hundreds of pounds!

Plus a small cart for a home jobber might be easier to move around if it's another 30lbs lighter than the steel one. Small cart won't hold too many tools, but plenty of weight savings to be found!

And if it's a pit box, a fair amount of the tools will probably be aluminum (many world class race teams use aluminum tools so that the tool is destroyed over use rather than the fastener or parts on the car).

Just because it's aluminum doesn't automatically make it less durable than a steel box. There are uses for lighter boxes, whether you see them or not.

If the boxes are from C Tech, then they will most likely have a 250lb weight rating per drawer (only option offered by them). The Snap On you were referencing has (according to their website) 120lb rated slides....

Check out what CTech makes. They build some pretty cool stuff for a lot of different industries.

I'm sure it's just the angle of the photo in the first post but the left and center boxes look like they are really tall. I'd almost be afraid of them being top heavy and possibly tip while in transit.

I'm really excited to see what these are all about.

I've been in the market for an upgrade to my bottom-end Craftsman toolbox for home use, not having any luck finding anything right for me at a reasonable price on the local used market, and very disappointed with the lack of new mid-range USA-made options. I'm really hoping that SK can fill the gap in-between made in China prices and Snap-on prices with a new toolbox that could work for me.

If one of the new toolboxes does seem like it would be right for me, I hope there will be a good online vendor available for them with reasonable prices and shipping, because getting any new SK locally in my area is not a viable option.
