I'm keeping my eyes peeled for the Snap On guy who stops at a garage a few blocks away. I'm very interested in seeing it and what kind of price he's asking for one. I might have to stop by the shop and ask what day/time he stops there during the week.

The beast has arrived!....and the beach towel. First impression is that you will not be flicking this thing one handed, but the length is awesome! Head is actually no wider than a regular Dual 80, but is a bit longer.

Cool, so basically no downside in access vs a non-locking flex. Good design.
Nope...flex is a bit longer, but zero difference in width or thickness. The locking mechanism has great indents, but I would not consider it one handed use....then again, this thing is for problem solving, NOT daily use.

A green one in the wild?!! I have never had a locking ratchet and I do have a few,but the mechanism did not feel intrusive.
Maybe I get mine on Monday.

That's a fair point... 😂

What's your impression compared to their original locking style?

I may be one of the few who liked the original 2 position locking, also liked the Matco style. This one is a SOLID locking, but not small/one handed by any means. That said its LONG and will be adjusted and set long before torque is put on it. SOLID mechanism that is meant for really pulling on and NOT fearing busted knuckles is how I would best describe it.
I can also say it WILL not lock up randomly when in flex mode, the indents are wicked nice and solid.

Still waiting on the day where I look at my flex head ratchet and think “man I wish this thing had a lock”
[edit] God gave me two hands one to hold the ratchet head on the bolt and the other to turn the handle. What's the problem? [edit]
This seems to be the crux of the argument in all of these locking / non-locking flex ratchet discussions. I have both locking (Armstrong) and non-locking (SnapOn and Tekton). I use all of them at different times and really like them all. But some of those times are, for example, when I'm wildly out of position, completely inside the pump house of a fire truck and can only use one hand with my arm fully extended. A locking flex ratchet helped get the job done. Kinda like these guys have encountered.
I was working on my excavator starter and could only use one hand. I needed pressure to keep the socket on the nut. I had the flex bend about half way and had to put pull tension on the handle while tightening the nut. Locking in that situation would have made the job easier.

Long handle and out of position needs locking!
And as others have said, if I'm using the locking flex ratchet but need to it to function non-locking, I just unlock it.

Snapon looks a good sturdy design and easily repairable (amazed MAC didn't do this first as the reversed fork was their flex ratchet breakthrough design), Matco slim head hard to beat and they proved be about best versatile locking ratchet design to date ...

I'm hoping to see the Snap On truck at the local repair shop. I've been busy and not paying attention. Seeing posts in this thread will have me looking next week.

I saw one with a green handle on Ebay for $230. Now I'll be looking a little harder for the Snap On guy who stops at a shop near my house. My hope is to get one at the trade price w/o the grip, if he has one, or continue to search Ebay.

Does anyone know if snap on plans to offer this lock design in their 24" long 1/2 drive ratchet? I'm in the market for a long locking flex 1/2" and wondering if I should wait it out to see what snap on does or just bite the bullet and buy a matco.

Why not email them and ask? Then update here with your findings

I asked my truck guy the same question a couple weeks ago and he hadn't heard anything but is assuming they will since the 3/8 are apparently selling very well.

How are people liking these now that you've had then for a year or so? I am eyeballing the FLLX80 locking long flex head 3/8.

I like mine. I work on forklifts and equipment so the super long 3/8”s gets used almost daily. The locking mech isn’t great but it’s fine. Never broken it and I’ve reefed on it many times where I should’ve used a 1/2”.

I'm happy with mine. It doesn't get daily use in a pro environment, but it has come in handy enough times for me to say it was worth it.
