I think this is being looked at the wrong way.
personally im glad that there are competitors that are making products available that are getting better than just getting cheaper (for them to make).

yes I love my snap on stuff, but I have been collecting the tools for a very very long time.
if I had to go replace all my tools I couldn’t afford to do it. And if I was starting out I could afford snap on

for the newer techs getting into the buisness it’s a good thing that they can get quality tools at a reasonable price. I wish they were made in the USA, but that’s a tall order

Sorry to hear that.

A combination wrench either works right, or it doesn't. What more do you want?
We want to be able to talk about tools in the Tools section of garage journal without you flattening every thread with your reductive ”a wrench is just a lump of metal that turns a bolt”. It “either works right or it doesn’t” is reductive. Is that all you can say? Is that the only meaningful measure? How did you like the food at the new restaurant? “I was able to swallow it”

To people who love tools, use tools, want nice tools, we want a place to discuss them without having every single thread devolve into “value for money”.

Why not move to the Porsche forums and tell them you can get to the grocery store or coffee shop equally efficiently in a Honda Civic?

For those just tuning in, this thread was about the inane criteria people use to compare toolboxes. It would have been good to talk about the features, likes, dislikes, independent of price. Some of us may have criteria or preferences that others might find or can mitigate/adapt in other brands.

Fair enough, that if you want more, you should have more.

Thank you for making that clear.

Interestingly enough, if you have had any chance to watch the couple of channels that do tool box tours of professional techs on YouTube, you would see that impact sockets and wrenches are the top two tools guys have a ton of variance on. It seems that it’s rather hard for any reputable manufacturer to screw those up so the saying “a wrench is a wrench” (barring some nuance) would definitely apply. Personally I’ve enjoyed using some really cheap ones and I’ve hated on some really popular domestic brands. Still haven’t found a perfect feeling wrench yet.

Why? & who would be dumb enough to do this? Seems more like an IQ test.

It is. (y)

I didn't know this was a Tiktok/youtube challenge.... there are literally a thousand videos of guys doing this...

Remember that kid in school that would eat/do/say anything on a dare to gain attention? Yeah, he's got a job now - and a YouTube channel. :ROFLMAO:

The whole “controversy” looks like just another angle to get attention on the Internet

Seems to be working

And here we are "feeding the beast". 🤦‍♂️;)

Could be viewed that way. Though to me this thread was always about someone having fallen for an "internet challenge" and thinking it was a legitimate thing. More about the power of social media influencers than actual toolboxes... But I respect your efforts to focus on the positive and appreciate your comments. They do contain some valuable reasoning and patience.

Roughly 100+ yrs ago, when I was a teenager :dunno:, a buddy had a real lightweight muscle car. Would jump up and clear the intersection before the Corvettes would get enough grip to cross the crosswalk. (*we were stupid fast, as I remember it now :cautious:) This had always colored my view of Vettes growing up and I've only ever ridden in one once. Cut to modern days, had an opportunity to drive a little supercharged sports car at Sebring on a track day - also lightweight, stupid fast and amazingly "sticky". There were quite a few new Corvettes there and wondered how they would fair. Oh my!! Quickly learned to pull to the outside whenever one would appear in my rearview mirror!! Was quite humbled and embarrassed by my previous assumptions... Please allow me to apologize for my errors..

So I do appreciate your car analogy and am working on my misconceptions too. Still smile at the old guys in Vettes trying to crawl over speed bumps at grocery stores or coffee shops, a Honda Civic would be a little more practical there and a Porsche does just fine too. Nothing but pure respect when the Vette guys show up at the track though! Right tool for the right job...

Maybe I'm stuck just in a practical world. :dunno:

I have a set of Pittsburg deep impacts 15 years now. No problems and I don't use them every day, but if I did and they wore/broke, I can get them replaced for free. I paid about $20, but they can be had today for $30.

A similar set of Snap On is over $600. maybe they are better :dunno: but even so, hard (for me) to justify the 20x higher purchase price.

If I was professional, I'd probably use SO for the image and some tools, they for sure make better. I don't doubt their tools boxes are better.
