Greetings. I'm trying to remediate a problem the former HO left me with. In the living room we have a ceiling fan, no light, that's controlled purely by a chain pull, no wall switch. Three speeds and off. It never worked but when I took the cap off the base I found that there was the pull chain section of the switch... And no electrical component. It looks like it broke at one point and instead of fixing it they simply stuck it back up there with the wires all capped off. I finally bought a new four position, three wire switch which seems to be the correct type for this fan but everything I find online, and in my electrical reference book, says to match the wire colors or look on the back of the original switch for numbers and match those to the new switch. I obviously can't do that. I've done quite a bit of electrical work but I'm completely unfamiliar with ceiling fans. What does one do in this case?
It seems that some of the wires are meant to go to a light that's not installed (the only wire labeled) and some of them seem to be a joining internal wiring together to power the motor and some are single wires with caps which I assume are the ones that need to be connected to the new switch. As a bonus, I can't locate a model or make on this thing but it kind of looks like a cheap Hunter. If the pictures aren't showing let me know. Thanks!
