So I bought a new Speedglas 9100XX a couple days ago. And all I can say is wow i didnt know what I was missing.

Helmet I was using was a jackson nexgen. Still a nice helmet but nothing compared to the 9100.

For one thing, I have an abnormal chuck of bone in the back of my head (looks like a shark fin) right where most headgear straps sit. The pivoting rear ******** the 9100 head gear was my first love of this thing.

The side windows are awesome

The Clarity through the HUGE filter is second to none. I run this helmet much darker than the jackson because I can actually see what I am doing.

And the helmet doesnt even feel like its on my head. Very adjustable, easy to fine tune, and the exhaust vents help out a lot.

Only two complaints I have are

No solar panel to help charge the battery on the 9100XX but worth it IMO for the larger veiwing area.

Its physically large, not weight wise, but dimension wise. But it does help to keep spatter out of the way and makes it much more comfortable to wear respiratory systems underneath. Plus with the large viewing area you can still see your work most of the time if you can fit the helmet on there.

Love this helent. $356 from Cyberweld and came with beanie, bag, and extra wear parts.

Nice helmet, and thanks for the review. Does this helmet have a grinding or plasma cutting mode?

Don't worry about the lack of solar charger and battery life. I have a Jackson Journeyman that I've had for over 6 years. It still has the original AAA batteries in it and I haven't had to change them. The batteries in good welding helmets last a really long time.

the head gear is second to none, THE most comfortable I've ever tried.

The 3M Speedglas is one of the best lens you can buy. It has a really smooth transition from light to dark and back. Makes welding much easier. Worth the money, as it out performs the other options.

Has grinding and torch modes, batteries are rated for 2000 hours. The9100x which is the pne with the panel and smaller lens is rated for 2500 I thinly it was worth the larger filter versus having the solar panel.

I love how smooth the transition is and the tack mode is very nice. At the end of the day I can still see perfect and not have a headache or anything

Is this for production welding eight hours a day? I didn't know welding helmets got that expensive. But, if you are makin ga living with it, there would be no question.

they go even higher than that...:bounce:

yes, that is a good example of a "weld shop" hood...

the speedglas 9002X is around 500-600 bones...

we have a few at work that were better than $1500 each :wtf:...but they have a Air Purifying Respirator built into them...beats the hell out of wearing a respirator under your hood...

Might have to be on the look out for one of those on sale. I've got a Miller performance and like it.

Yeah, it does. I have the 9100X (next window size down from this one) and it is awesome. I think I did a rather extensive review on this thing a while back. It's been a great helmet over the last year or two.

I just purchased a Speedglas 9002X helmet and currently it's sitting in Illinois waiting to be shipped to me .

http://store.cyberweld.com/speedglas9000x.html

I would be grateful if anybody can give me some info on what cheater lens I could fit into this helmet. Diopter 1.5.

I'm not even sure if this helmet with take in cheater lenses.

Thanks a lot.

Just curious ... on a battery operated auto darkening helmet, vs. a solar powered one, what warning do you get when the battery starts to wear out? I'd like to think you wouldn't be risking getting flashed while the battery is weakening.

Yeah, i just purchased a miller elite pro, with the stars n stripes....supporting american industry "made in korea"?????????????

Nice helmet but only gripes is that i have to flip up to turn on, and headbands a little loose.

Yeah, I'm not sure the Miller Elite is where it's at (I've got two). Why can't they make headgear that actually stays up and then flips down?

on a Miller Elite, there's a red indicator inside the helmet will blink, you can't miss it. and it will start way before the batteries run out.
