Its 40'x80' I do have insulation for it . I started building it myself with help from friends who have experience with this kind of construction . Ive been renting a scissor lift and using ladders, so far its pretty straight forward and I haven't had any real problems.......yet

Very interested subscriber ... I am also just getting to the end of permitting and hiring a concrete sub. Can you provide info on who you went through for building kit and if you are pleased with them. Thanks look forward to following post

So far so good with the building itself , as you can see its far from being finished so I cant really say how good or bad the rest of it is . I bought it from Bison Steel Buildings ,Denny is the guy who helped me through the process along with John (the owner of the company ). I didnt have any permit issues with the building design , drawings or concrete engineering ,it was all because I live in a flood zone. You can see how high the pad is above the natural grade so I will have a oy of filling and grading to do once the building is done

Im sure its been said before but be very careful who you buy a steel building from , make sure your not dealing with a broker. DON'T call General Steel they have hundreds of pending lawsuits against them for taking deposits and never providing anything. All buildings are built specifically for where you live so if a company tells you they have one that a customer cancelled or overstock buildings at a cheap price its a lie , all buildings need to meet the codes for your county. I went through a bunch of this after I emailed 2 companies for price quote. I was getting phone calls and emails from over a dozen "building manufactures" but they were all brokers. Do a lot of research and check with your zoning department about the required IBC codes before you have engineered drawings done, I had some problems with IBC code updates when I bought my building but Bison Steel took care of it, they provided all new drawings with current updates with no extra cost to me.
I wont be able to get anything done on it this weekend Ive got some cars to work on.

Going backwards with the photos but had some problems posting but got it figured out. The footings had to go 24" deep on the side where the wash flows the rest had to be a min of 12". The stem walls have to be a min of 18" above the natural grade, the property slopes about 2' along the length of the building so the west side stem walls are up about 36". I had to turn the entire building on an angle so it was parallel with the flow of water . I originally planned on having it 90 degrees to the property lines but I couldn't get it passed through flood plain without a hydrologist research and major excavating.

Thanks for response. I have not seen much on Bison steel out there. Yes I also have dealt with the annoying brokers but very quickly told them where to go! I am in FL and the closest dealer/manufacturing plant I have found is Vulcan Steel in GA. They too seem like the real deal and legit to work with so we will see. I am awaiting my final price to pull the trigger today!

Looks like their framing design is the same as mine, Bison is located in MN but they ship their steel out of Texas and California. I guess being closer saves some money with shipping. Hopefully it works out for you, if not give Bison a call and talk to Denny, its worth a call to get a price comparison.

Haven't done anything on the garage in a few weeks, just don't have time plus its been over 104 degrees and doesn't look like its going to let up anytime soon. Im waiting on some price quotes to get the rest put up and finished. If its reasonable I just have it done.Ill post more progress pictures when they happen.

My guess is that you are in Arizona (or close by). Heat is a killer and you are smart by taking it easy. Once the building is up there will be plenty of things for you to do inside.

Yup Im in Arizona its been well over a 100 all last week and no end in site. 102-109* all week coming up. I really want it done but its going to have to wait unless I can afford to pay someone but i would rather spend the money elsewhere like on the electrical or the roll up doors my cars etc, etc.
Nice 32!

I'v been at it for 10 months now and I'm almost done with my 40x80. Real similar except the red finish. I too felt I needed to hire someone to finish up, but they would have never gone the extra mile like we did. I used Mueller out of El Paso, great expiriance as well.

I even sent the r-10 4" insulation back for a full refund no questions asked. I did hire a commercial insulation company to put up r-30 on walls and ceiling. As you know how hot its been, it was money well spent. the shop stays about 20-25 degrees cooler then outside temps. That would not happen with the r-10.

I was reluctant to hang the insulation between the sheets and red iron as it always breezy and windy, plus the rain factor during monsoon season (when I started the sheeting). I knew it would not be completed in one day and the insulation is left exposed past the last panel. I did not have to rent equipment, so I do understand your position on finishing your self vs paying a company to finish. I had a quote of 14 k to skin my building (7k for roof,7k walls). Too much for me.

So far I have $22.60/S.F including upgrades. None of these would have been possible had we not done it ourselves (most of it any way).

Best of luck.

I wish my pad could have been on the ground like yours , I got some quotes prior to starting it but they were through friends of friends so the cost wasn't as high as what you got but Im on a tight budget so I had to try putting it up myself. I got a quote to finish it but i need to get my insulation first so they can just get it done start to finish without waiting.
